The present invention pertains to catalyst systems for nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, and sulfur reactions that are free or substantially free of platinum group metals. The catalyst system of the present invention comprise a substrate and a washcoat, wherein the washcoat comprises at least one oxide solid, wherein the oxide solid comprises one or more selected from the group consisting of a carrier material oxide, a catalyst, and mixtures thereof. The catalyst system may optionally have an overcoat, wherein the overcoat comprises at least one oxide solid, wherein the oxide solid comprises one or more selected from the group consisting of a carrier material oxide, a catalyst, and mixtures thereof. The catalyst comprises one or more selected from the group consisting of a ZPGM transition metal catalyst, a mixed metal oxide catalyst, a zeolite catalysts, or mixtures thereof.

Zero platinum group metal catalysts

The present invention relates improving the performance of nitrogen oxide reduction by exposing rich exhaust to catalysts systems comprising a catalyst, wherein the catalyst systems are free of platinum group metals. The present invention also relates to improving reduction of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon in exhaust by introducing air into a portion of the exhaust between a first catalyst system and a second catalyst system. The present invention also relates to improving nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon reduction by (1) exposing rich exhaust to a first catalysts system, wherein the exhaust has an R value of greater than 1.0 and the first catalyst system comprises a catalyst and is free of platinum group metals and (2) introducing air into a portion of the exhaust in between the first catalyst system and a second catalyst system, wherein the second catalyst system is free of platinum group metals.

Embodiments of the present disclosure include a catalyst for the conversion of CO and/or hydrocarbons in an exhaust stream including a Sn compound selected from the group consisting of a binary composition comprising Sn and Ti, a ternary composition comprising Sn, Ti and Zr, and mixtures of any thereof. In those embodiments, the binary composition may include SnTiO, wherein x+y=1, 0.85&#x3e;y&#x3e;0. In other embodiments of the present disclosure, the Sn compound includes a ternary composition including SnTiZrO, wherein a is 0.25, b is 0.25 and c is 0.5. Certain embodiments of this disclosure include a method for the conversion of CO in an exhaust stream, including contacting an exhaust stream containing CO with the catalyst described above containing a Sn compound. In other embodiments, the exhaust stream includes hydrocarbons.
