A call routing system comprises a signaling processor with an internal cache memory. The signaling processor receives a signaling message and searches the cache memory with a called number to determine whether or not the called number has an associated location route number or if a query is required. If the query is required, the signaling processor transfers the query and receives a response that indicates whether or not the called number has the associated location route number. If the called number has the associated location route number, the signaling processor processes the location route number to select a connection. If the called number does not have the associated location route number, the signaling processor processes the called number to select the connection. If the response is received, the signaling processor updates the cache memory to indicate whether or not the called number has the associated location route number.

System and method for caching called number information

A system and method for caching N00 information comprises an N00 cache that can be located in a signaling processor. The N00 cache is a memory cache that contains the N00 information, such as the N00 number and a destination number. The signaling processor receives and processes call signaling. The signaling processor accesses the N00 cache to determine if the destination number for the N00 number exists. The N00 cache returns the destination number if a match is found for the N00 number. If a match is not found, the signaling processor can be configured to query an N00 service control point (SCP).

System and method for caching toll free number information

A system and method for connecting a call processes call signaling to determine if a call is a ported call or a non-ported call. A signaling processor determines if a ported number parameter (PNP), such as a forward call indicator (FCI) bit M and/or a ported number generic address parameter (GAP), is present. If the PNP is not present and the signaling processor determines the dialed number is a member of a portable number plan area and central office code combinations (NPA-NXX), the signaling processor queries a ported number database (PNDB). The PNDB responds with the called number dialed digits if the call is not a ported call or a location routing number (LRN) if the call is a ported call. The signaling processor appends a 1 to the nature of address (NOA) subfield of the called party number (CdPN) field if the call is a ported call. The signaling processor then partitions the call signaling parameters between ported or non-ported routing table translations, depending on whether the NOA is appended or not, to determine call routing connections and new call signaling. The appended 1 of the is appended NOA is removed prior to building an outgoing call signaling message.

The invention comprises a telecommunications signaling processor that processes signaling system &num;7 telecommunications signaling messages to select asynchronous transfer mode connections and time division multiplex connections and to provide control messages indicating the selected connections. The telecommunications signaling processor also processes non-call associated signaling messages for call maintenance.

System and method for processing a call

A first call processing system advantageously uses a constant bit rate connection and a variable bit rate connection to utilize the bandwidth for a data call. The first call processing system receives signaling for the data call. The first call processing system then processes the signaling to generate a first instruction to set up a constant bit rate connection for the data call between the first call processing system and a second call processing system. The first call processing system processes the signaling to generate a second instruction to set up a variable bit rate connection between the first call processing system and the second call processing system. Any bandwidth that the data call does not need and use can be utilized for other calls. Thus, the performance of other calls is improved.

The communication system includes a first interface to communicate with a telephone network, a second interface to communicate with a wireless network, a third interface to communicate with a first communication device (e.g., telephones, facsimile machines, computers), a fourth interface to communicate with a second communication device, and control circuitry. The control circuitry connects the third interface to the first interface and connects the fourth interface to the second interface to provide simultaneous communication between the first communication device and the telephone network and between the second communication device and the wireless network.

A system and method for caching local number portability (LNP) information comprises an LNP cache that can be located in a signaling processor. The LNP cache is a memory cache that contains the LNP information, such as the dialed number (DN) and the location routing number (LRN) for an associated DN. The signaling processor receives and processes call signaling. If the signaling processor determines that a DN may be assigned to a portable communication device, such as a portable signaling processor, then the signaling processor accesses the LNP cache to determine the LRN for the DN, if it exists. The LNP cache returns the LRN if a match is found for the DN and if the DN has a corresponding LRN. If a match is not found, the signaling processor can be configured to query an LNP service control point (SCP). Alternately, the LNP cache can be configured to include DNs that have a corresponding DN entry or a blank entry, but not an LRN entry, to signify that the DN is not ported. Upon locating such an entry, the signaling processor will not have to query the LNP SCP.

A second network such as an interexchange carrier advantageously identifies incorrect original number portability data from the first network such as a local telephone company and obtains new number portability data to prevent misrouted calls. The second network receives original number portability data from the first network. The second network determines whether to use the original number portability data from the first network for call routing. If the original number portability data from the first network is not used for call routing, the second network generates and transmits a query to obtain new number portability data for call routing. The second network receives the new number portability data for call routing in response to the query. The second network then generates and transmits a route instruction using the new number portability data. If the original number portability data from the first network is used for call routing, the second network generates and transmits the route instruction using the original number portability data. In some embodiments, the threshold for misrouted calls ensures that incorrect number portability data is not used repeatedly and the correct number portability data is used for call routing.

Method and apparatus to process number portability data for a call

According to the invention, a method and apparatus are disclosed for allowing a consumer to place wireless calls over their hand-held wireless communications device from telephones connected through-out their location, while keeping the convenience and flexibility of a hand-held communications device. More specifically, the present invention includes a communications premises station system for receiving a hand-held wireless communications device which communicates with a wireless network and has a premises station interface. The communications premises station system has one or more telephonic interfaces for communicating with one or more telephonic devices (e.g., telephones, facsimile machines, computers). When the hand-held wireless communications device is placed in premises station (similar to a battery charger cradle), the hand-held wireless communications device electrically connects to communications premises station system. A call processing element of the communications premises station system exchanges signaling information with the hand-held wireless communications device, and converts incoming signals from the hand-held wireless communications device to incoming signals to the telephonic device, and converts outgoing signals from the telephonic device to outgoing signals to the hand-held wireless communications device. In this manner, when the hand-held wireless communications device is placed in the premises station, wireless telephonic calls can be placed from and received by a telephonic device connected to the communications premises station system.
