A system for non-invasive hematological measurements includes a platform to receive a body portion of a user and an imaging device to acquire a set of images of a capillary bed in the body portion. For each image, a controller detects one or more capillaries in the body portion of the finger to identify a first set of capillaries by estimating one or more attributes of each capillary (e.g., structural attributes, flow attributes, imaging attributes, or combinations thereof), wherein at least one attribute of each capillary meets a predetermined criterion. The controller also identifies a second set of capillaries from the first set of capillaries such that each capillary of the second set of capillaries is visible in a predetermined number of images of the set of images.

Systems, devices and methods for non-invasive hematological measurements

Method for distinguishing between red blood cells and white blood cells. The method includes obliquely illuminating the blood sample with light from at least two rotational angles and analyzing light side scattered from cells in the sample to provide accurate discrimination of white blood cell types based on the anisotropy of red blood cell side scatter as compared to more isotropic white blood cell side scatter.

System for scatter-based differentiation of cells. The system includes a planar substrate having cells disposed thereon for imaging and a microscope employing relatively low magnification detection optics providing a wide field of view focused on the cells on the substrate and defining a microscope optical axis. An illuminator delivers light to the ceils on the substrate focused to a spot larger than the field of view of the microscope, the illuminator having an illumination optical axis highly oblique to the microscope optical axis wherein scattered light is collected by the microscope. A detection system receives the scattered light from the microscope to provide a measure of signal intensity and a measure of size for each cell for discrimination of cell type.
