A sliding sleeve design for downhole components is provided. The sliding sleeve can be used in gas lift systems.

Sliding sleeve for gas lift system

A latch design for downhole components is provided. The latch design includes a dog assembly instead of a traditional shear pin design to allow the latch to withstand greater forces and more cycles than the traditional design.

Gas lift latch

Pressure relief systems for gas lift valves and mandrels are provided. In an implementation, a gas lift barrier mandrel includes two gas lift valves in series fluid communication. When fluid becomes confined between the two gas lift valves, an expansion volume is provided in one of the gas lift valves for pressure relief of the confined fluid, beginning at a pressure threshold value. The pressure relief may be mediated by a pressure-activated device, a piston, a spring, or a bellows to regulate the expansion of confined pressure. In an implementation, one of the gas lift valves may include a pressure relief valve to vent confined pressure from the gas lift valve to the production tubing or casing annulus. A check valve may be added in series with the pressure relief valve within the gas lift valve to prevent backflow through the pressure relief valve.

Pressure relief system for gas lift valves and mandrels

A composite material includes a solid polymer matrix, a plurality of capsules and a liquid, in the capsules. The liquid includes from 50 to 100 wt % of a solvent, and from 0 to 50 wt % of a polymerizer. There is no polymerizer outside of the capsules. The solid polymer matrix may include a native activating moiety for the polymerizer. The solvent may have a swelling ratio with the solid polymer matrix of at least 1.1 and/or may have a polarity ET of from 0.10 to 0.50.

Solvent-promoted self-healing materials

A gas lift valve that has a longitudinally extending tubular body having an inlet and an outlet, a flow path extending between the inlet and the outlet, and a flow tube located inside the body. The flow tube is translatable in the axial direction between at least a first and a second position. A venturi orifice located inside the body along the flow path. A seal part is located proximate to the outlet of the body. A flapper is connected with the body by way of a hinge part and the flapper has at least a first open position and a second closed position. The closed position is where the flapper contacts the seal thereby closing the flowpath and the second closed position is where the flapper does not contact the seal and does not close the flowpath.

Gas lift barrier valve

A gas lift valve assembly includes a housing that includes a first passageway that is substantially concentric with the central passageway of a string to communicate well fluid and a second passageway that is eccentrically disposed with respect to the central passageway to communicate a second fluid to lift the well fluid. The gas lift valve assembly includes a valve that is disposed in the second passageway and includes a ball valve to regulate communication of the second fluid.

Gas lift valve

Power and control logic configurations for gas well dewatering systems are provided. In one example, a reservoir is configured to contain hydraulic, lubricating fluid. An electric motor is configured to receive fluid from the reservoir for lubrication and a hydraulic pump powered by the electric motor is configured to receive fluid from the reservoir and pump the fluid into a hydraulic circuit. A positive displacement oscillating pump is powered by the hydraulic pump and configured to pump fluid from the reservoir to an outlet from the well. The electric motor and hydraulic pump receive the same fluid from the reservoir for lubrication and to create pressure in the hydraulic circuit, respectively. A switching device is connected to the hydraulic circuit and is switchable between a first position wherein fluid pressure from the hydraulic pump causes the piston pump to move in a first direction and a second position wherein fluid pressure from the hydraulic pump causes the piston pump to move in a second direction.

Gas well dewatering system

A hanger system is provided for supporting a cable-supported dewatering pump in a gas well. A dewatering pump is supported in a downhole location by a cable. A cable hanger bears the weight of the cable and the weight of the dewatering pump. A pulling tool is configured to detachably connect to the cable hanger and to support the weight of the cable hanger, cable and gas well dewatering system as it is pulled out of a seated position in the well.

Integrated cable hanger pick-up system

A monitoring and control system for a dewatering pump configured to dewater a gas well is provided. A dewatering pump is driven at a first speed to pump fluid out of a well annulus. A fluid level detection device is configured to identify a change of fluid level in the well annulus occurring between a first time and a second, later time. A controller is configured to change the speed of the dewatering pump from the first speed to a second speed based upon the identified change in fluid level. Several embodiments of the fluid level detection devices are provided.

Monitoring and control system for a gas well dewatering pump

Configurations for gas well dewatering systems having overpressure protection to protect a pump and its peripheral equipment from damage due to overpressure are provided.

Overpressure protection in gas well dewatering systems

Devices, systems and methods for equalizing pressure in a gas well are provided. A jar device is coupled to a pump deployed in a gas well between areas of low pressure and high pressure. The jar device includes a mandrel and a no-go sleeve. A jarring tool is operated to transfer an axial force onto the jar device that is large enough to shear a shearable connection between the mandrel and no-go sleeve and thereby cause the mandrel to slide from a first position to a second position with respect to the no-go sleeve. A seal that seals between the no-go sleeve and mandrel when the mandrel is located in the first position is unsealed as a result of the movement of the mandrel and thereby fluid communication is allowed between the area of high pressure and low pressure. This allows for easier retrieval of the pump.
