A tiltenator of a media separator module (integrated within a valuable media depository) adaptively controls pressure maintained against a bunch of media as individual items from the bunch are fed through the media separator module.

Adaptive pressure media feeding

A deskew module of a valuable media depository is selectively controlled to operate in two deskew modes of operation. One deskew mode of operation selectively activates a single angle drive idler in a first cell while simultaneously activating a single straight drive idler in second cell, which forces the media to self-align against an edge of the deskew module for exiting the deskew module deskewed.

Deskewing media

Systems and methods for rejecting a media object may include receiving the media object. The method may also include engaging a drive member to translate the media object. A sensor may be activated to detect an abnormality in the media object. Upon detecting the abnormality in the media object, the drive member may be engaged to reject the media object.

Rejection of invalid media

A stack of media items are urged along a transport path that includes a bend in the track of the transport path. A first phase of separating the media items from the stack includes pre-separating the media items from the stack as the media items are urged along the bend. A second phase includes separating a leading media item from the stack by urging the leading media item exiting the first phase between opposing rollers to transport the leading media item along the transport path within a value media depository.

Two stage media separator

A deskew module of a valuable media depository is selectively controlled ejection processing. Upon detection of a jammed item of media within the deskew module, angled drives are activated to lift a jammed corner of the item off a track base of the deskew module and free the item's jammed corner. Next, straight drives are activated to eject the item from the deskew module.

Ejecting damaged/deformed media

A media separator module of a valuable media depository is selectively controlled to detect folded media and selectively eject the media or preform double feed recovery processing based on a fold type detected for the media.

Folded media detection and processing

A media separator module of a valuable media depository is selectively controlled to progressively and selectively activate drives for double feed media recovery processing when two items of media are detected within the media separator module.

Double feed recovery and processing

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for separating a media item from a bunch of media items. The apparatus comprises at least one first roller located on a first side of a transport path along which a media item is transported and at least two further rollers located on a further side of the transport path opposite the first side, said at least two further rollers being spaced apart to receive a portion of said at least one first roller therebetween, wherein in an advance mode of operation said first and further rollers rotate in the same direction and in a reject mode of operation said first and further rollers rotate in opposite directions.

Media item separation

Systems and methods for deskewing a media object may include receiving, at a deskew of a self-service terminal, the media object. The method may also include engaging a drive member to position the media object into a first position within the deskew. A deskew member may be engaged in a first direction to position the media object into a second position within the deskew. The deskew member may be engaged in a second direction to position the media object into a third position within the deskew.
