A telephone switch system is connected digitally to an external computer system operating database software and having access to a digitally stored database of information used by the switch. The switch performs data transactions on the database in the manner of a client. The database engine allows live queries, which automatically update querying clients as pertinent data changes. The database engine also allows query concentration, which caches query results and supplies the cached results to querying clients making identical queries within a prescribed period of time. The database engine further allows batch inserts, which allow a user to add a plurality of records with a single command.

Method and apparatus for accessing data stored in database of telephone system

The present invention adapts the 3 tier client/server concept to the legacy switch environment of a prepaid system providing a more highly specialized telephony switch with an improved developmental capacity. Functionality is removed from the switch to an abstraction layer through the use of an integrated network server, permitting the switch to become more specialized. The integrated network server, running Windows NT, supports open platform architecture to meet evolving system needs.

Three tier client/server model for legacy switches

Telecommunication equipment is connected to and controlled by a computer which executes software controlling the digital communication between the telecommunication equipment and the computer. Apparatus and method for achieving distributed telephony management within a network of telecommunication switches are disclosed. By using techniques known to computer communication technology but as yet unapplied to telephony, execution of tasks necessary for the proper functioning of a telephony network are performed with increased efficiency, ease, and throughput by distributing processing amongst the switches composing the network and attached computers.

Use of ISA Adapter Card (ISAAC) to insure timing of application of power and logic to ISA, SCSA and MVIP Cards when those cards are plugged into standard ISA connectors of the ISAAC and the ISAAC is subsequently plugged into an active ISA, SCSA, and/or MVIP bus(es) such that any server connected to the back plane does not have to be shut down to protect ISA, SCSA and MVIP cards when inserted and removed from the back plane.

A method of enhancing communication among a plurality of communicating devices in which an interface comprising a list of features for enhancing the ability of devices to communicate is copied from a device controlling communication to the controlled communication devices. The interface may be a variable portion of a communication protocol that, together with a static portion of the protocol provided separately, defines the communication capability of the devices. The method finds application in telephone systems where the controlling device is a public or private telephone exchange and the controlled devices are computer operated telephones. The display screen of the computer at each telephone may be used to select features of the interface that are to be used.
