A probe device tests a broadband wireless system. The probe device receives an instruction to execute a plurality of tests. The probe device then executes the plurality of tests to measure performance of the broadband wireless communication system based on the instruction. The probe device determines performance information from the plurality of tests. The probe device stores the performance information in a memory of the probe device.

A probe device in a broadband wireless system receives a message and processes the message to determine channel information that indicates performance of channels in the broadband wireless system. The probe device then stores the channel information in a memory in the probe device. In some embodiments, the probe device determines a state of one of the channels. In some embodiments, the states are polling, dedicated, or idle.

A wireless communication system controls wireless communications over a shared wireless link. The wireless communication system transfers first credits to a first wireless communication device at a first credit transmission rate. The first credits indicate first time periods for the first wireless communication device to use the shared wireless link. The second credits indicate second time periods for the second wireless communication device to use the shared wireless link. The wireless communication system changes the first credit transmission rate and changes the second credit transmission rate. In some examples, the wireless communication system changes the first credit transmission rate and the second credit transmission rate in response to collisions on the shared wireless link.

An access system that is coupled to a communication network hosts a file for an end-user system. The access system receives the file from the end-user system. The access system stores the file in a memory in the access system. The access system receives a message from the communication network, wherein the message requests the file from the end-user system. In response to the message, the access system determines if the file may be transferred to the communication network from the memory in the access system. If the file may be transferred to the communication network from the memory in the access system, then the access system notifies the end-user system that the file will be transferred from the memory in the access system to the communication network and transfers the file from the access system to the communication network.

A performance management system generates and transmits a first instruction for a Remote Monitoring (RMON) probe to request RMON information. The performance management system receives and stores the RMON information in memory in the performance management system. The performance management system generates and transmits a second instruction for an RMON manager to request the RMON information. The performance management system receives and stores the RMON information in the memory in the performance management system. The performance management system generates and transmits a third instruction for an RMON database to request the RMON information. The performance management system receives and stores the RMON information in memory in the performance management system.

A wireless control system uses wireless communications that include a plurality of channels and that are shared between a plurality of wireless communication devices. The wireless control system generates and transmits a first control message that allows first access to one of the channels for one of the wireless communication devices. The wireless control system waits a period of time based on a rate of control message transmissions. In response to an expiration of the period of time, the wireless control system generates and transmits a second control message that allows second access to the one of the channels for another one of the wireless communication devices.

Access based on a rate in a wireless communication system

A reverse caching system monitors residential end-user communications to cache content files when they are transferred from the residential end-users over access links to a core communication network. The reverse caching system monitors the residential end-user communications to identify requests for the content files cached in the reverse caching system. In response to identifying the requests, the reverse caching system transfers the requested content files from the reverse caching system to the core communication network.

The wireless control system processes the termination message to determine an amount of time for a second access to the one of the channels for the one of the wireless communication devices. The wireless control system then generates and transmits a second control message that allows the second access and indicates the amount of time. In other embodiments, the termination message indicates a number of packets or bytes remaining to be transmitted.
