A power management technique for a printer includes detecting a change in a state of operation of a printing device. The amount of power available to operate all functions of the printing device is calculated. Next, power is delivered to specified functions of the printing device based on the calculated amount of power available, wherein the specified functions are a subset of all functions of the printing device. Then, it is determined whether the specified functions operate correctly.

Delivering power to printing functions

Example implementations relate to adjust sharpness parameters. In some examples, a printing device can include a processing resource and a memory resource storing non-transitory machine-readable instructions to cause the processing resource to receive print data comprising color channels corresponding to print pixels to be formed on a multi-layer thermally activated print medium, determine a characteristic of a corresponding layer of the multi-layer thermally activated print medium for color channels of the received print data, adjust sharpness parameters of the color channels based on the determined characteristic of the corresponding layer of the multi-layer thermally activated print medium, and cause a print head of the printing device to apply thermal energy to an area of the multi-layer thermally activated print medium including the print pixels using the adjusted sharpness parameters.

Adjust sharpness parameters

In some examples, dithering based color conversion may include ascertaining an input color value. Based on conversion of the input color value to an output color space representation, a set of nodes that are to be analyzed to control operation of a printer may be determined. Based on a position of the input color value from each node of the set of nodes, a corresponding probability associated with each node of the set of nodes may be determined. Further, the operation of the printer may be controlled based on the determined probability associated with each node of the set of nodes.

Dithering based color conversion

An example of apparatus to align media. The apparatus includes a printer assembly to form markings a first side of a media. The apparatus also includes a sensor to detect a backside pattern on each pass at multiple locations. The apparatus includes a processor in communication with the sensor. The processor is to compare the backside pattern measured on multiple passes to determine offset amounts. The apparatus also includes a controller to adjust the media relative to the printer assembly based on the offset values.

Alignments of media using multiple passes

In some examples, luminance-biased sharpening for thermal media printing may include converting an input image to a grayscale luminance representation. For each pixel of a plurality of specified pixels of the converted input image, a sharpening lightness value may be determined. Further, a ratio of the sharpening lightness value to a corresponding original lightness value may be determined. A resulting sharpened pixel may be determined by applying a corresponding value of the determined ratio to each of the specified pixels. A dark correction factor may be applied to the resulting sharpened pixels that are darkened and a light correction factor may be applied to the resulting sharpened pixels that are lightened. Based on application of the dark correction factor and the light correction factor, a sharpened output image corresponding to the input image may be generated.

Luminance-biased sharpening for thermal media printing

In some examples, luminance-biased sharpening for thermal media printing may include converting an input image to a grayscale luminance representation. For each pixel of a plurality of specified pixels of the converted input image, a sharpening lightness value may be determined. Further, for each pixel of the plurality of specified pixels of the converted input image, a ratio of the sharpening lightness value to a corresponding original lightness value may be determined. Based on the determined ratio, a sharpened output image corresponding to the input image may be generated.

Example implementations relate to initiation of a shortage model in a printing device. For example, initiation of a shortage model may include guidance of a page of print media through a printing device by a feedshaft and an upper paper guide, where the page of print media is held by a media control surface. A shortage model may be initiated based on an amount of data to be printed. An ink nozzle may be turned off based on the initiated shortage model.

In some examples, dynamic threshold based error diffusion may include determining whether a pixel associated with a pattern to be printed includes a lighter tone or a darker tone compared to an adjacent pixel. In response to a determination that the pixel associated with the pattern to be printed includes the lighter tone or the darker tone compared to the adjacent pixel, a firing threshold may be respectively increased or decreased to respectively decrease or increase a likelihood of printing of the pattern.

Dynamic threshold based error diffusion

A system, method, and non-transitory computer readable medium are disclosed for mitigating dot placement errors for a given print job. The method includes processing tone values on a per pixel basis to determine whether to implement plane dependence. Plane independence is implemented if the tone value exceeds a predetermined threshold. The method may be performed on a pixel by pixel basis and/or a print object or region basis. Determining whether to implement plane dependence may involve de-asserting or partially de-asserting a plane dependence component of an executed half-toning instruction between sequentially processed color planes of a printing system.

Mitigating dot placement errors for a print job

A printer includes a printbar having plural dice partially overlap in the direction of rows and a halftoner. The dice receive nozzle firing data which determines when and where the individual print nozzles are to be operated in order to emit the colorant onto the media so as to form the desired printed image on a media. The halftoner is a bidirectional error diffusion halftoner that is structured to generate halftoned data. The halftoned data is mappable into the firing data. The halftoner includes a serpentine direction reverser which is structured to halftone print data image pixels in a first serpentine direction to form halftoned data and then to halftone print data image pixels in an opposite serpentine direction to form the halftoned data.

A printing system comprising an electrical interface for ink pens of an inkjet printer, the electrical interface including a first group of electrical contacts; a second group of electrical contacts, the second group of electrical contacts being arranged in an identical configuration as the first group of electrical contacts; and a number of electrical interconnects, in which each electrical contact from the first and second groups of electrical contacts is connected to one of the electrical interconnects via a conductive trace; in which at least one electrical contact from the first group of electrical contacts is connected to a same electrical interconnect as at least one electrical contact from the second group of electrical contacts.

Ink pen electrical interface

A printing system configured for multi-mode printing, the printing system including a print head, the print head including a number of nozzle pairs, each nozzle pair including a primary ink nozzle and a secondary ink nozzle; and switching circuitry for selectively firing either or both of the nozzles in a selected pair within one of a number of time slots based on a current print mode.

A method includes identifying a sufficient amount of printing fluid for a printhead to print a current swath and determining whether the sufficient amount of printing fluid is equal to or greater than a volume threshold value based on at least a second printing fluid volume capacity of a second region. The method also includes providing an amount of time after printing a previous swath and prior to a completion of printing the current swath for a second region to be supplied with an additional amount of printing fluid from a first region in response to a determination that the sufficient amount of printing fluid is equal to or greater than the volume threshold value.

A printing method includes obtaining an initial printer profile corresponding to a printing system having a plurality of ink colors, identifying a remaining ink parameter corresponding to each of the ink colors, and determining whether the remaining ink parameter of each of the ink colors are approximately equal to each other such that: performing a print job using the initial printer profile when the remaining ink parameter determination is that the remaining ink parameter of each of the ink colors are approximately equal to each other, and determining a modified printer profile by selectively changing color saturation for one or more of the ink colors to balance ink usage and performing the print job using the modified printer profile when the remaining ink parameter determination is that the remaining ink parameter of each of the ink colors are not approximately equal to each other.
