A shock absorber, for use with headgear having a faceguard, has a sliding member that does not extend beyond the support structure of the shock absorber in a way that would leave it vulnerable to damage. A headgear having a faceguard provides a protected mounting location for mounting a shock absorber for the faceguard.

A slipper and/or eyed leaf-spring vehicle suspension system is provided with a compliant oversized pivot bushing and a torque rod or control arm, respectively. Each of the torque rod or control arm are provided with at least one over-sized eye bushing-housing into which the compliant oversized pivot bushing is compressed into. The compliant oversized pivot bushing has an elastomeric annulus mounted on a rigid sleeve wherein compliant oversized pivot bushing has an overall outside diameter that is greater to much greater than its width.

Improvements to a sliding sub-frame for heavy-duty vehicle suspensions include torque boxes, an air slider-pin system, and a heavy-duty shear-off nut. In the prior art, all four sliding pins are linked together with bars so if one sliding pin is stuck they are all stuck. Here, each sliding pin has a dedicated air assist bladder and is independent and can release on its own. That way, if one sliding pin is stuck, it is a much easier job to get it unstuck by moving the vehicle. The torque box relates to stress-relief measures of shear strains at critical fastened (eg., bolted) connections. The shear-off nut has a break-neck flanked between a hex head and collet nut. The clearance between the outside sidewall of the collet nut very nearly fully spans the space between the flats of a hex socket for the hex head, thereby providing light on-axis support.

Sliding sub-frame for heavy-duty vehicle suspension, including torque box, air slider pin, and shear-off nut

A suspension for vans or semi-trailers has a sliding (or slider) frame that can be slid longitudinally between spaced, left and right trailer stringers. The sliding frame is coupled within the stringers for longitudinal sliding between forward and rearward extremes. The sliding frame is formed by a pair of left and right rails spaced by two or three or more cross members. The sliding frame has an even number of independent air-spring support towers. The support towers are welded to the rails, but the cross members are bolted. The air-spring support towers can take semi-funnel shapes to having a lower narrower end forming an air-spring seat, and flaring upwardly from there to upper ends connected high on the rails to funnel the weight of the van or trailer from over a wider area to more of a pinpoint distribution on the air-spring seat.

A trailer suspension system has an axle, a pair of frame hanger brackets, dual trailing arm beams, and a spring. The pair of frame hanger brackets are mounted spaced apart underneath the trailer. The dual trailing arm beams are connected rigidly to the axle at one end and resiliently connected to a respective one of the frame hanger brackets with a pivot means bushing at the other end. The spring intermediate the trailing arm beam and the trailer to support the trailer load. Wherein, the axle connection center is the center of the patch that connects the axle to the longitudinal trailing arm beam, thereby reducing the stress on the axle as well as increasing the stability of the suspension system.

Lateral-stability promoting semi-trailer suspension

A vehicular suspension system has a hanger to attach beneath a vehicle, a rocker pivoted at a first end to the hanger and attached proximate a second end to an axle, a shock absorber extending between the hanger and an intermediate position on the rocker, as well as likely a spring on the rocker's second end to push up against the overhead vehicle. The suspension system incorporates an axle saddle configured for more strongly welding to the axle, as well as a composite construction for the rocker to make a tube and thereby achieve a more strongly welded connection to the axle saddle. The suspension system further incorporates a rocker-to-hanger rocking axis alignment subsystem as well as a shock-absorber protection subsystem.

Vehicular suspension systems

The present invention provides a suspension beam and bush attachment assembly. The assembly comprises a longitudinally extending control arm, a bush eye clamp, and a mounting bracket. The control arm has a bush end, a mid-region, an axle mount formed opposite of the bush end, and one or more fastener bore. The bush eye clamp is transversely mounted to the bush end of the control arm and has a center bore configured for receiving a bush therein and an axial slot biasing the bushing eye clamp open for bush insertion. To securely position the bush within the bush eye clamp, the mounting bracket is affixed to the bushing eye clamp and has one or more fastener bores substantially aligned with the one or more fastener bores of the control arm such that securing a fastener through each of the bores of the bracket and control arm couples the bracket to the control arm and biases the axial slot into a substantially closed position to contact and compress a perimeter of the bush with the bush eye clamp.
