A method includes receiving a first alignment state indication at a portable handheld tool from an alignment tool. The first alignment state indication indicating an alignment state of a workpiece relative to a reference that is independent and distinct from the portable handheld tool. The method also includes, based on the first alignment state indication, enabling a first selectable drive state of a drive system of the portable handheld tool. The method further includes actuating the drive system responsive to user input, where the drive system is limited based on the first selectable drive state.

A multi-layer optical barcode with security features is described herein. An example method includes illuminating a first phosphor layer on a substrate with light having a first wavelength, wherein the first phosphor layer has luminescent properties such that when it is illuminated by light having the first wavelength, it emits light having a second wavelength, the first phosphor layer is divided into a first two-dimensional grid of cells arranged in a first spatial pattern, wherein each cell of the first phosphor layer corresponds to one bit of an identification code, a first portion of the first phosphor layer is removed from a first number of cells of the first two-dimensional grid of cells to expose the substrate for the first number of cells, capturing a first image of the light emitted by the first phosphor layer having the second wavelength, determining whether the first phosphor layer is authentic based on the first image, and determining the identification code based on the first image.

An example apparatus includes a barcode scanner to scan a barcode on an item and a tester to determine whether the item is authentic, wherein the tester prevents the barcode from scanning the item if the item is not authentic.

Systems and methods to generate data representative of a fragmented document are provided. A particular method includes using motion of a moving film to move multiple pieces of a document that has been fragmented. The method also includes capturing images of the pieces as the pieces are moving, wherein each of the images includes at least one side of at least one of the pieces. The method further includes processing the images to generate a data file including at least a portion of the document, where the portion is determined based on image data associated with two or more of the pieces.

Interactive tools and methods are provided. A particular interactive tool set includes a portable handheld tool and an alignment tool. The portable handheld tool includes a selective drive system. When the selective drive system is engaged, the portable handheld tool is operable perform a function and, when the selective drive system is not engaged, the portable handheld tool is not operable to perform the function. The alignment tool is physically separate and distinct from the portable handheld tool. The selective drive system engages in response to an indication of an aligned state of the alignment tool.

Systems and methods to generate data representative of a fragmented document are provided. A particular method includes moving a plurality of pieces of a document that has been fragmented. The method also includes capturing images of the pieces. Each of the images includes at least one side of at least one of the plurality of pieces. The method further includes processing the images to generate a data file including at least a portion of the document where the portion is determined based on image data associated with two or more of the plurality of pieces.

Systems and methods to generate weather alerts are provided. A particular system includes one or more sensors to detect weather data. The system also includes a weather band radio receiver to receive weather alert messages. The system also includes a processor to perform an analysis of the weather data, to determine based on the analysis whether the weather data indicates a dangerous storm condition, and to initiate a first alert when the analysis indicates the dangerous storm condition and a weather alert message has been received. The first alert is not initiated when the weather alert message is received and the analysis does not indicate the dangerous storm condition.

A system, computer-implementable method, and computer-readable medium for improving sequential serial attached small computer system interface storage device performance. According to a preferred embodiment, a microprocessor within a target device receives a collection of tasks from at least one initiator device via a collection of initiator paths. The target device is a cyclic non-volatile memory medium. The microprocessor queues the collection of tasks according to a collection of task list. Each task list corresponds to a respective initiator path. The microprocessor combines the collection of tasks in an execution queue. The collection of tasks on the execution queue is reordered based on a priority scheme. The microprocessor executes the collection of tasks from the execution queue.

System and method to improve sequential serial attached small computer system interface storage device performance

Systems and methods to generate weather alerts are provided. A particular system includes a weather band radio receiver to receive weather alerts. The system further includes a processor to perform an analysis of the received electromagnetic radiation and to determine based on the analysis whether the electromagnetic radiation indicates rotation in a storm system. The processor initiates an alert when the analysis indicates rotation in the storm system and a weather alert has been received.

The invention provides a method for converting a less active or slower to initiate system to a higher activity system so that at the end of a polymerization the most active species is present in the system. The invention generally relates to a process for converting a less active or slower to initiate catalyst system to a higher activity catalyst system wherein the process comprises contacting a protected N-heterocyclic carbene with a metathesis catalyst and an olefin in the presence of energy. One of the benefits of the invention is that the amount of catalyst required is less than or lowered in the presence of the protected N-heterocyclic carbene as compared to the amount of catalyst required in the absence of the protected N-heterocyclic carbene. The protected N-heterocyclic carbene can be unsaturated or saturated. In addition, the invention describes novel ruthenium initiators and methods of making the same.
