Lubricant compositions including an additive composition and methods for its use in engines that produce soot. The lubricant composition contains a base oil and an additive composition having (a) at least 0.05 percent by weight of a first dispersant that is a reaction product of A) a hydrocarbyl-dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, and B) at least one polyamine; and (b) at least 0.05 percent by weight, both based on a total weight of the lubricant composition, of a second dispersant that is a reaction product of A') a hydrocarbyl-dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, and B&#x2032;) at least one polyamine, wherein the reaction product is post-treated with C) an aromatic carboxylic acid, an aromatic polycarboxylic acid, or an aromatic anhydride wherein all carboxylic acid or anhydride groups are attached directly to an aromatic ring, and/or D) a non-aromatic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride having a number average molecular weight of less than about 500.

Synergistic dispersants

Lubricating oil compositions and methods of their use are provided herein. A lubricating oil composition as described herein includes a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, an amine-functionalized olefin copolymer dispersant viscosity index improver in an amount of from about 1.5 wt. % to 2.0 wt. % based on the weight of the lubricating oil composition, and a dispersant. The amine-functionalized olefin copolymer dispersant viscosity index improver includes a reaction product of an acylated olefin copolymer and a polyamine. The dispersant includes reaction product of components (A) a hydrocarbyl-dicarboxylic acid or anhydride having a number average molecular weight of from about 500 to about 5000 and (B) at least one polyamine, wherein the reaction product is post-treated with (C) an aromatic carboxylic acid, an aromatic polycarboxylic acid, or an aromatic anhydride, wherein all carboxylic acid or anhydride groups are attached directly to an aromatic ring, and/or (D) a non-aromatic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride having a number average molecular weight of less than about 500.

Dispersant viscosity index improver-containing lubricant compositions and methods of use thereof

A compression-ignited engine lubricant and a method for reducing engine wear. The lubricant including, (a) a base oil; (b) oleamide; (c) zinc dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate; and (d) a functionalized dispersant. The functionalized dispersant is made by reacting together (i) a hydrocarbyl-dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, (ii) a polyamine, (iii) a dicarboxyl-containing fused aromatic compound or anhydride thereof, and optionally, (iv) a non-aromatic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, wherein the hydrocarbyl group of the hydrocarbyl-dicarboxylic acid or anhydride has a number average molecular weight of greater than 1800 Daltons as determined by gel permeation chromatography.

Lubricating oil composition and additive therefor having improved wear properties

An ashless additive for lubricating oil compositions, lubricating oil compositions and methods for lubricating that are effective to improve the total base number (TBN) of a lubricant composition. The additive is a reaction product of a compound of the formula: with NH, an alcohol, an amine, or a hydrocarbyl amine, wherein Ris selected from H, a hydrocarbyl group, the alcohol or amine contains from 1 to about 24 carbon atoms, and the hydrocarbyl amine has a number average molecular weight ranging from about 100 to about 6000.

Lubricant compositions containing a heteroaromatic compound

An engine lubricant composition, a method for maintaining the soot or sludge handling capability of an engine lubricant while not adversely affecting elastomeric seal material in the engine and a method of operating an engine. The engine lubricant includes a base oil and a dispersant. The dispersant is a reaction product of A) a hydrocarbyl-dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, B) a polyamine, C) a dicarboxyl-containing fused aromatic compound, and D) a non-aromatic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride.

Lubricant compositions containing a functionalized dispersant

A diesel fuel, diesel fuel additive concentrate and method for improving the performance of fuel injectors for a diesel engine are provided. The diesel fuel includes a major amount of middle distillate fuel; and a reaction product of a hydrocarbyl substituted dicarboxylic acid or anhydride and an amine compound or salt. The amine compound has the formula wherein R is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen and a hydrocarbyl group containing from about 1 to about 15 carbon atoms, and Ris selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a hydrocarbyl group containing from about 1 to about 20 carbon atoms. The reaction product contains at least one amino triazole group and is present in the fuel in an amount sufficient to improve the performance of diesel fuel injectors.

Fuel additives to maintain optimum injector performance

A crankcase lubricant composition, method for improving the soot or sludge handling capability of a crankcase lubricant composition and a method of operating an engine on a crankcase lubricant composition. The lubricant composition includes a base oil and a reaction product of mono-succinimide dispersant and an acidic compound containing two or more pyrrole groups.
