Circuit breakers are disclosed that include a housing with a line side and a load side, a printed circuit board in the housing, a movable contact arm with an electrical contact, a stationary line side contact, a primary trip solenoid in the housing coupled to the printed circuit board, an armature in the housing, a bimetal member in the housing adjacent the armature and adjacent the primary trip solenoid; and a lockout assembly in the housing. The lockout assembly includes a rod configured to have a first inactive position and a second lockout position. When in the second position and/or as the rod travels to the second lockout position, the rod directly or indirectly pushes the armature toward the bimetal member to physically lock out the circuit breaker to prevent conduction and separate the line side contact from the movable contact arm electrical contact.

Circuit interrupters with lockout feature and related methods

A system includes a circuit interrupter including a light source structured to output light and a first processor structured to obtain information associated with the circuit interrupter and to control the light source to output light in a pattern representing the information. The system also include an adapter structured to detect light output by the light source, convert the detected light to another form, and to output the converted form of the light and an electronic device structured to receive the converted form of the light. The electronic device includes a second processor structured to convert the converted form of the light into the information.

Circuit interrupter diagnostic system

A system includes a circuit breaker and an adapter. The circuit breaker includes a front face with a light source on the front face. The adapter is configured to be releasably held on the front face in an installed position. The adapter includes a light sensor that aligns with the light source in the installed position. The light source and the light sensor are configured to communicate such that the adapter receives operational data from the circuit breaker in the installed position.

Adapters for obtaining operational data from circuit breakers and related systems and methods

A method for obtaining operational data from a circuit breaker includes: releasably attaching an adapter to a circuit breaker; actuating a test button on the circuit breaker using the adapter; moving a handle of the circuit breaker to an on position; initiating output of a light signal from the circuit breaker that is representative of operational data of the circuit breaker in response to the actuating and moving steps; and receiving the light signal at the adapter.

Devices, systems, and methods for obtaining operational data from circuit breakers

An electronic overload current breaker supports arc-fault and ground-fault (AFGF) detection along with built-in shunt calibration (BISC&#x2122;). The breaker may include a current sensing shunt and a control circuit electrically coupled to the current sensing shunt. This control circuit is configured to calibrate the current sensing shunt in response to application of a calibration current to the breaker. The control circuit can: (i) determine a magnitude of the calibration current applied to the breaker, (ii) map the magnitude of the calibration current to a first one of a plurality of current ratings for the breaker, and (iii) set the breaker to monitor overload conditions at the first one of the plurality of current ratings. The plurality of current ratings for the breaker can be less than the magnitude of the calibration current.

A circuit interrupter including a first set of separable contacts, a second set of separable contacts, a first operating mechanism structured to open the first set of separable contacts, a second operating mechanism structured to open and close the second set of separable contacts, and an electronic trip unit including a routine structured to detect a fault condition and a type of the fault condition, to control the second operating mechanism to open the second set of separable contacts in response to detecting a first type of fault condition, and to control the second operating mechanism to close the second set of separable contacts a predetermined amount of time after controlling the second operating mechanism to open the second set of separable contacts.

Self-test circuitry for testing a circuit interrupter includes an active element coupled to an operating mechanism, a first sub-circuit for temporarily disabling the active element, a second sub-circuit structured to generate a simulated ground fault condition, and a processing unit coupled to the ground fault detection circuitry. The first sub-circuit and the second sub-circuit, the processing unit being structured and configured to control the first sub-circuit to temporarily disable the active element and to control the second sub-circuit to generate the simulated ground fault condition when the active element is disabled. Also, self-test circuitry that includes a sub-circuit structured to generate a simulated ground fault condition and a processing unit structured and configured to control the sub-circuit to generate the simulated ground fault condition only during a predetermined portion of a half cycle of energy passing through the circuit interrupter.

System and method for self-testing a ground fault circuit interrupter

A bus assembly is for a load center. The load center includes a cover apparatus and an electrical switching apparatus. The cover apparatus has a number of cover segments. The bus assembly comprises a bus stab structured to be coupled to the number of cover segments and the electrical switching apparatus; a bus bar structured to be coupled to the number of cover segments; and a connection device comprising an element extending from a corresponding one of the bus stab and the bus bar. The connection device is structured to move between a FIRST position corresponding to the element being electrically disconnected from the other of the corresponding one of the bus stab and the bus bar, and a SECOND position corresponding to the element being electrically connected to the other of the corresponding one of the bus stab and the bus bar.
