An apparatus, system, and method for mapping a conduit wall, of which the apparatus includes a shaft defining a central longitudinal axis, and a sensor module coupled to the shaft and including an emitter configured to emit a light beam directed at least partially radially with respect to the central longitudinal axis, and a sensor configured to detect a reflected portion of the light beam, such that the sensor module is configured to measure a distance between the conduit wall and sensor module. The apparatus also includes a centralizer coupled to the shaft and configured to position the sensor module at a center of the conduit.

Conduit mapping tool and method

A technique is provided to facilitate use of a service tool at a downhole location. The service tool has different operational configurations that can be selected and used without moving the service string.

System and method for facilitating downhole operations

A technique is provided to facilitate connection of multiple stage completions. A first completion stage is deployed at a wellbore location. Subsequently, the next completion stage is moved downhole into engagement with the first completion stage. The completion stages each have communication lines that are coupled together downhole via movement of the completion stages into engagement.

Zonal isolation tools and methods of using same are described. The zonal isolation tools include a wellbore sealing member expandable by fluid pressure to contact a wellbore over an initial contact area, an inflation valve open during expansion of the sealing member to the initial contact area and closed upon the fluid pressure reaching a predetermined setting, a vent between the sealing member and a wellbore annulus adapted to open after the inflation valve is closed, and a compressive load imparted to the sealing member via a linear piston to achieve a sealing point at the leading edge of the sealing member. This abstract allows a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the disclosure. Zonal isolation tools and methods of use

A technique is provided in which a soft landing system is used for connecting upper and lower assemblies in a wellbore. The soft landing system cushions the engagement of an upper well assembly with a lower well assembly and facilitates the controlled engagement of control line connectors. The controlled engagement limits or avoids damage to the control line connectors in well completion operations performed in two or more stages.

Downhole connection system

A technique is provided to facilitate connection of well equipment assemblies at a downhole location. A first assembly comprises a control line having a connector designed for coupling with a corresponding connector of a next adjacent assembly. Additionally, a mechanism is provided to restrain movement of the next adjacent assembly prior to full engagement with the first assembly to enable performance of a desired preparation procedure.

An apparatus that is usable with a well includes a tubular member, an annular body and plugs. The tubular member includes a wall that defines a passageway to communicate a fluid, and an opening extends through the well. The annular body circumscribes the wall, and the annular body includes orifices that are adapted to communicate the fluid with the opening. The plugs are adapted to be moved to controlled positions relative to the orifices to regulate at least one of a flow rate of the fluid through the opening and a pressure differential across the opening.

Annular choke

A technique is provided in which a contraction joint is used to facilitate connection of well equipment assemblies at a downhole location. The contraction joint accommodates changes in system length during engagement and use or the well equipment assemblies in a wellbore. Additionally, the contraction joint provides a positive indication of joint position and enables resetting of the joint following initial contraction.

The invention is a system and method a system used to control multiple downhole tools with one control line. The downhole tools may comprise any hydraulically actuated tools, such as valves, packers, or perforating guns. Each tool is associated with an indexer, in one embodiment, so that the tools can be operated in concert and as a system.

System and method to control multiple tools through one control line

A system and method is provided for integrated control of multiple well tools. Predetermined pressure levels are utilized in independently actuating specific well tools from a plurality of well tools. The number of well tools independently controlled may be greater than the number of fluid control lines that cooperate with the well tools to control tool actuation.

System and method for controlling downhole tools

A hydraulic wiper plug launcher (8) includes a coupler (22) releasably mounted on the upper end of a well casing (9). The outer coupler body (10) has an inner shoulder (49) and an open ended plug container (12) has a stack of wiper plugs (16) compressed therein. The upper end portion of container (12) forms a fluid chamber (S2) above the uppermost wiper plug (16). A precise predetermined volume of fluid is supplied to fluid chamber (S2) for expelling the plugs (16) in a controlled sequence. The length of the fluid chamber (S2) in container (12) increases an amount equal to the length of the wiper plug (16) pushed or expelled from the open lower end of the container (12).

Hydraulic wiper plug launcher

A wiper plug launching tool includes a body arranged to be lowered into a liner on a running string, the body having a tubular upper portion and a cylindrical lower portion, upper and lower wiper plugs loaded into the lower portion, each of the plugs having upwardly facing elastomer cups that are reduced in diameter during loading, a drive rod movably mounted in the upper portion of the body, a first piston or dart that is pumped down the running string and into engagement with the drive rod so that pressure applied to the first dart forces the rod downward to cause ejection of the lower wiper plug into the liner where cups of the plug expand to provide a moving seal at the lower end of a column of cement, and a second piston or dart that is pumped down into engagement with the first dart to force the rod further downward and cause ejection of the upper wiper plug into the liner where the cups of this plug expand to provide a moving seal at the upper end of the column of cement. A slidable valve is provided adjacent the upper end of the drive rod and is effective to close lateral flow ports upon downward movement of a dart and initial engagement with the drive rod. The drive rod has a piston mounted within a cylinder for cushioned movement upon metering of hydraulic fluid between the piston and cylinder during downward movement of the drive rod. A modification of the invention shown in FIGS. 9-11 utilizes three wiper plugs for sealing the liner.
