A device is provided for preventing buckling of a flexible elongate member during insertion of the flexible elongate member. The device includes a support frame comprising a first end, a second end, and multiple pairs of support members. The support frame is configured to reversibly move from a collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration when the first and second ends are moved away from each other. The device also includes multiple open channels coupled to the multiple pairs of support members of the support frame. The multiple open channels are configured to allow the flexible elongate member to be top loaded into the multiple open channels. Also, the multiple open channels are maintained in an axial alignment as the support frame is moved between the expanded and collapsed configurations.

Anti-buckling mechanisms for catheters

Methods and systems for administering directed fluidics during a medical procedure for removing an object are disclosed. A method includes inserting first and second medical instruments into a treatment site, providing irrigation and aspiration of the treatment site through the first and second medical instruments, determining a characteristic of one of the irrigation and the aspiration, and selecting a characteristic of the other of the irrigation and aspiration based on the determined characteristic.

Systems and methods for tracking robotically controlled medical instruments

A robotic surgical system with an input device has two operational modes by which both steerable and non-steerable elongate instruments can be effectively controlled, such as steerable catheters which can move in at least three orthogonal axes and non-steerable guidewires which can move via axial insertion/retraction or axial rotation. The robotic surgical system may include mapping schemes and haptic feedback to enhance the functionality, operation and ease of use of the input device when controlling non-steerable elongate instruments such as guidewires.

User input devices for controlling manipulation of guidewires and catheters

Certain aspects relate to systems and techniques for an endoscopic system to access, visualize, and treat pathologies in various organs via natural orifices and lumens of various organs. In one aspect, the system includes an elongate shaft configured for insertion into a urinary tract of a patient. The elongate shaft can include a proximal section, a distal section, a tip portion, and a plurality of pull wires extending along the elongate shaft and terminating at the tip portion of the elongate shaft. The plurality of pull wires may include a first and second pull wire. The first pull wire may be configured to articulate each of the proximal section and the distal section in a first direction. The second pull wire may be configured to articulate the distal section in a second direction independently of the proximal section, the second direction being transverse to the first direction.

Certain aspects relate to systems and techniques for driving axial motion of a shaft of a medical instrument using a drive device. A drive device configured to facilitate axial motion of an elongated shaft of a medical instrument can include a body comprising a channel configured to receive the elongated shaft of the medical instrument, a roller configured to engage with the elongated shaft such that, when rotated, the roller drives axial motion of the elongated shaft received in the channel, a first drive input coupled to the body, wherein the first drive input is operable by a robotic system to rotate the roller, a cover configured to selectively open or close the channel, and a second drive input coupled to the body, wherein the second drive input is operable to actuate the cover.

Axial motion drive devices, systems, and methods for a robotic medical system

Certain aspects relate to systems and techniques for driving axial motion of a shaft of a medical instrument using a drive device. Axial motion can include insertion and/or retraction of the instrument. For example, a robotic medical system can include a medical instrument comprising an instrument base and a flexible shaft configured for insertion into a patient, and a first robotic arm attachable to the instrument base of the medical instrument. The system also includes a drive device configured to engage the flexible shaft, and a second robotic arm attachable to the drive device. The second robotic arm is configured to operate the drive device to drive axial motion of the flexible shaft, and the first robotic arm is configured to move in coordination with operation of the drive device.
