An optomechanical accelerometer includes: a fiducial mass for a microscale Fabry-Perot optical cavity; a proof mass for the microscale Fabry-Perot optical cavity, such that the proof mass oscillates in a displacement motion toward and away from the fiducial mass in response to acceleration of the optomechanical accelerometer; a basal member; microscale beams that mechanically suspend the proof mass from the basal member; and the microscale Fabry-Perot optical cavity that has a cavity resonance at a cavity resonance wavelength provided by the cavity length, receives excitation radiation at an excitation wavelength that is reflected in the cavity as dynamic cavity light when the excitation wavelength is resonant with the cavity resonance wavelength, and transmits the dynamic cavity light as cavity output light when the dynamic cavity light is produced from the excitation radiation.

Optomechanical accelerometer and performing optomechanical accelerometry

A pulsed laser interferometer includes: a pulsed laser; a vibration controller that produces a vibration control signal that controls a vibrational frequency and vibrational amplitude of a structural member; an interferometer controller; a pathlength control stage that changes an optical pathlength for laser pulses; a pathlength reflector that moves in concert with the pathlength control stage to change the optical pathlength of propagation for the laser pulses; a light pulse detector that produces a light pulse detector signal; an interference light detector that produces an interference frequency signal; a signal mixer that produces a reference frequency signal; and a phase-sensitive detector that produces a vibrational amplitude signal and a vibrational phase signal from the interference frequency signal referenced to the reference frequency signal.

Pulsed laser interferometer and measuring vibrational amplitude and vibrational phase

A sample carrier for in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has a dielectric substrate with a conductive layer that forms a coplanar waveguide. The coplanar waveguide has a first and second leads formed by the conductive layer. The first lead is between an adjacent pair of second leads and is spaced from the second leads by a respective gap. The coplanar waveguide is configured to transmit an electrical signal to a specimen held by the sample carrier, in particular, an electrical signal having a frequency in the radio-frequency (RF) regime (3 kHz-300 GHz), for example, up to 100 GHz. The sample carrier may be mounted to a TEM sample holder, which supports the sample carrier within a vacuum chamber of the microscope and provides electrical connection between the leads of the sample carrier and an RF source external to the vacuum chamber.

Radio-frequency (RF) transmission systems, devices, and methods for in situ transmission electron microscopy

A micromechanical vibrasolator isolates vibration of a micromechanical resonator and includes: phononic bandgap mirrors, monophones connected serially; phonophore arms in an alternating sequence of phonophore arm-monophone-phonophore arm; abutments in acoustic communication with the phononic bandgap mirrors; wherein the micromechanical resonator is interposed between the phononic bandgap mirrors with phononic bandgap mirror arranged in parallel on opposing sides of the micromechanical resonator arranged perpendicular to a direction of vibration of an in-plane vibrational mode of the micromechanical resonator.

Micromechanical vibrasolator

A microassembly method and system utilizing multiple probes. Multiple manipulation actuators can be utilized for maintaining/holding one or more probes and an assembly substrate. Multiple microscope cameras can be configured to provide three distinct workspace configurations. At the center of each manipulation actuator is a die stage, which supports the assembly substrate upon which parts are assembled. A glue dispenser can also provide glue to a part prior to placement.
