A method of increasing a weighting factor of an exponentially weighted moving averaging ('EWMA') filter is provided. The method includes monitoring a data stream containing raw data values, and determining an EWMA value based on the data stream by an electronic control module. The method includes determining if the EWMA value is between a predetermined maximum fault threshold value and a predetermined minimum fault threshold value. The method includes increasing the weighting factor of the EWMA filter to more heavily weigh incoming raw data values of the data stream based on the difference between the first raw data value and a previously calculated filtered value exceeding the calibration value.

Exponentially weighted moving averaging filter with adjustable weighting factor

A method for a fuel system is provided, comprising: during a first engine-off condition, coupling a fuel tank to a fuel vapor canister, and indicating degradation based on a change in pressure at the fuel vapor canister, and during a second engine-off condition, coupling the fuel vapor canister to an intake of an engine, and indicating degradation based on a change in pressure at the fuel vapor canister. The first engine-off condition may include an absolute fuel tank pressure greater than a threshold, while the second engine-off condition may include an engine spinning unfueled. In this way, a vacuum or pressure may be applied to the fuel vapor canister during an engine-off condition without requiring a dedicated vacuum pump coupled to the fuel vapor canister.

System and methods for evaporative emissions leak testing

A system and method for initiating an engine after-run state and controlling a nitrogen oxide sensor self-diagnostic tool are provided. The system may include an internal combustion engine, an exhaust system, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device and at least two NOx sensors to measure the efficiency of the SCR device and a controller or host machine. The controller, via the present method, executes a first control action to disable the self-diagnostic tool when one of an occurrence of a particulate filter regeneration event and a non-occurrence of a calibration threshold is detected. The controller executes a second control action, initiating an engine after-run state and enabling the self-diagnostic tool when one of a non-occurrence of a particulate filter regeneration event and an occurrence of the calibration threshold is detected.

Method and system for initiating an engine after-run state and controlling a nitrogen oxide sensor self-diagnostic tool

A method and apparatus for controlling a diagnostic module for an exhaust gas sensor in a vehicle is provided. The exhaust gas sensor is located in an exhaust pathway in the vehicle. The diagnostic module may be configured to perform a signal range verification of an oxygen sensor portion of the exhaust gas sensor. A controller is operatively connected to the exhaust gas sensor and to the vehicle engine. The controller disables the diagnostic module when one or more entry conditions are satisfied. The entry conditions may include requiring the engine speed to be greater than a fuel cut-off threshold, the fuel cut-off threshold being the engine speed at which the fuel to the engine is terminated. The entry conditions may include: no fuel being delivered to the engine; and a vehicle exhaust brake mode being activated such that the exhaust pathway from the engine is obstructed.
