An insulation system for an aftertreatment system includes a first insulating element including at least one slit, and a second insulating element including a plurality of fingers extending from opposing sides of an aperture. The second insulating element is couplable to the first insulating element, and when the second insulating element is coupled to the first insulating element, the plurality of fingers overlap the at least one slit.

A diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) system and a method of controlling the DEF system are disclosed. The method may include determining that a shutdown condition of the DEF system is satisfied; providing a control signal to open a valve of a buffer tank of the DEF system based on determining that the shutdown condition of the DEF system is satisfied; determining that a level of DEF remaining in the buffer tank satisfies a threshold; and closing the valve of the buffer tank based on the level of DEF remaining in the buffer tank satisfying the threshold.

Diesel exhaust fluid tank freeze mitigation

A heat shield assembly is provided for shielding a wire harness that is associated with a sensor in communication with a heat source. The heat shield assembly includes a base plate having a primary aperture that is configured to allow passage of the wire harness therethrough. The primary aperture is disposed in alignment with a hole defined on a shroud of the heat source. The heat shield assembly also includes a pair of walls extending upwardly from a pair of opposite edges of the base plate. Further, the heat shield assembly also includes a pair of ledge members that extend laterally from a pair of first ends associated with the pair of walls. Furthermore, the heat shield assembly also includes a pair of thermal diverter plates that extend angularly from a pair of second ends associated with the pair of ledge members.

Heat shield assembly for shielding a wire harness

An exhaust gas aftertreatment system is disclosed. The system may include an inlet to receive an exhaust gas produced by an engine and a first section to receive the exhaust gas from the inlet. The system may include a mixing tube to receive the exhaust gas from the first section and a reductant injector to inject a reductant into the mixing tube. The system may include a second section to receive the exhaust gas from the mixing tube and to facilitate mixing of the reductant and the exhaust gas after the exhaust gas exits the mixing tube and a diffuser to receive the exhaust gas from the second section. The system may include a plurality of catalysts to receive the exhaust gas from the diffuser and at least one outlet to receive the exhaust gas from the plurality of catalysts.

Exhaust gas aftertreatment system

An inlet filter is disclosed for use with a reductant tank having a fill spout. The inlet filter may have a generally cylindrical base portion with an open top end and an open bottom end and configured for mounting inside the fill spout. The inlet filter may also have a mesh bag with a top connected to the generally cylindrical base portion, a folded bottom, and open side edges. The inlet filter may further have a bag carrier configured to close the open side edges.

In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, an accumulator is provided for an engine exhaust treatment system. The accumulator includes a container, an inlet portion for receiving exhaust treatment fluid, a conduit in communication with the inlet portion of the container to withdraw exhaust treatment fluid from the inlet portion, and an outlet portion configured to receive exhaust treatment fluid from the inlet portion and having an outlet for discharging exhaust treatment fluid. The accumulator includes a weir separating the inlet portion and the outlet portion that permits exhaust treatment fluid in the inlet portion to flow into the outlet portion.

Accumulator for an engine exhaust treatment system

A dosing system for dosing diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into an inlet of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment module of a diesel engine is described. The dosing system may comprise a DEF supply line configured to deliver the DEF from a pump to a first injector and a second injector at the inlet. The DEF supply line may include a tri-axis connector configured to split the DEF from the pump into two portions each exiting one of a first outlet port and a second outlet port, a first delivery conduit configured to deliver the DEF exiting the first outlet port to the first injector, and a second delivery conduit configured to deliver the DEF exiting the second outlet port to the second injector. The first injector and the second injector may dose the same quantity of the DEF into the inlet of the aftertreatment module.

Diesel exhaust fluid dosing system for diesel engine aftertreatment module

A fluid reservoir includes a reservoir body forming a reservoir volume and a header opening. A header seals the header opening and includes at least a heater disposed within the reservoir volume and a fluid draw conduit. A bag filter is connected to the header such that it completely encloses the heater and the fluid draw conduit such that, when fluid is drawn from the reservoir volume through the sump location, the fluid is filtered by the bag filter.

Filter system and filtration method for fluid reservoirs

A fluid delivery system includes a fluid reservoir having an inlet screen and a main reservoir filter. The fluid reservoir is adapted to enclose a fluid therewithin and includes a reservoir body forming a reservoir volume that is fluidly connected to an inlet conduit, a supply conduit, and a return conduit. The inlet screen is disposed fluidly along the inlet conduit and adapted to filter a fluid provided to fill the reservoir through the inlet conduit. The main reservoir filter is disposed fluidly along the supply conduit and adapted to filter a fluid drawn from the reservoir volume and provided through the supply conduit to a pump.

Accurate measurement of exhaust gas compounds is necessary for correct operation of exhaust treatment systems, such as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) units used in diesel engines. However, accurate sensor readings assume an even distribution of compounds in an exhaust stream in order to use a sampled measurement to be extrapolated to the compound concentrations in the full stream. A structure placed in an exhaust passage downstream of an SCR reaction unit causes turbulence in the exhaust gas while developing a minimal backpressure. This turbulence helps create a more uniform distribution of compounds in the exhaust. As a result, an exhaust gas sensor gives more accurate readings even when the sensor is placed in relatively close proximity to an output of the SCR system.

Selective catalytic reduction outlet mixing device

A mounting assembly for an injector is located in a curved portion of an exhaust line having an exhaust flow from an upstream end to a downstream end. The mounting assembly includes an indent extending at least partially into the exhaust line curved portion and disposed in the exhaust flow. The downstream wall has an interior surface oriented to substantially face the exhaust line downstream end. A recess extends from the downstream wall in a direction away from the exhaust line downstream end, and a recess aperture is formed in the recess and configured to fluidly communicate with the injector. The recess reduces the amount of exhaust heat reaching the injector tip.
