Aqueous suspensions are presented that are stable against settling without additional mixing in which the suspensions comprise a water soluble polymer that is anionic or non-ionic comprising a blend of water with at least about 32 weight percent chloride salt with a counter ion Awith 2≤a, from about 1 wt % to about 10 wt % particulate polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight from about 1600 g/mol to about 50,000 g/mol, and from about 10 wt % to about 50 wt % of the water soluble polymer that is not a poly ether. The suspension has chlorides in a sufficient amount to inhibit hydration of the suspended water soluble polymer and the particulate polyethylene glycol. The aqueous suspension can be formed by adding a powder of polyethylene glycol to a high salt solution and then adding the high molecular weight polymer. The aqueous suspensions can be useful as friction reducing agents in flowing liquids, such as for hydraulic fracture.

The present invention relates to the field of panoramic still and motion photography. In a first embodiment, a camera apparatus for panoramic photography includes a first image sensor positioned to capture a first image. The first image sensor has a rolling-shutter readout arranged in portrait orientation. The camera apparatus also includes second image sensor positioned to capture a second image. The second image sensor has a rolling-shutter readout arranged in portrait orientation. Finally, the camera apparatus includes a controller configured to signal the second image sensor to start capturing the second image before the first image sensor finishes capturing the first image. At least a portion of the first image is in front of the second image relative to a forward direction of the camera apparatus.

The present disclosure relates to curved arrays of individually addressable light-emitting elements for sweeping out angular ranges. One example device includes a curved optical element. The device may also include a curved array of individually addressable light-emitting elements arranged to emit light towards the curved optical element. A curvature of the curved array is substantially concentric to at least a portion of the circumference of the curved optical element. The curved optical element is arranged to focus light emitted from each individually addressable light-emitting element to produce a substantially linear illumination pattern at a different corresponding scan angle within an angular range. The device may further include a control system operable to sequentially activate the individually addressable light-emitting elements such that the substantially linear illumination pattern sweeps out the angular range.

The present disclosure provides systems and methods that enable adaptive training of a channel coding model including an encoder model, a channel model positioned structurally after the encoder model, and a decoder model positioned structurally after the channel model. The channel model can have been trained to emulate a communication channel, for example, by training the channel model on example data that has been transmitted via the communication channel. The channel coding model can be trained on a loss function that describes a difference between input data input into the encoder model and output data received from the decoder model. In particular, such a loss function can be backpropagated through the decoder model while modifying the decoder model, backpropagated through the channel model while the channel model is held constant, and then backpropagated through the encoder model while modifying the encoder model.

In one example, an encoder model can receive a first set of inputs and output a first set of outputs. The encoder model can be a neural network. The decoder model can receive the first set of outputs and output a second set of outputs. A loss function can describe a difference between the first set of inputs and the second set of outputs. According to an aspect of the present disclosure, the loss function can be sequentially backpropagated through the decoder model without modifying the decoder model and then through the encoder model while modifying the encoder model, thereby training the encoder model. Thus, an encoder model can be trained to have enforced consistency relative to the inverse decoder model.

The present disclosure relates to staggered arrays of individually addressable light-emitting elements for sweeping out angular ranges. One example device includes an astigmatic optical element. The device may also include an array of individually addressable light-emitting elements arranged to emit light towards the astigmatic optical element. The astigmatic optical element may be arranged to focus light emitted from each individually addressable light-emitting element to produce a substantially linear illumination pattern at a different corresponding scan angle within an angular range. A light emitter is provided to emit, into an environment of interest, a plurality of different patterns of light during respective periods of time. Each of the different patterns of light varies according to angle in a first direction such the location of a light detector disposed in the environment can be determined based on illumination from the light emitter that is detected by the light detector over time. The light emitter includes an astigmatic optical element and a die on which are disposed multiple sets of one or more light emitters, each set corresponding to a respective pattern of illumination emitted from the light emitter. Such a configuration of the light emitter can provide means for producing the different patterns of illumination in an energy-efficient, low-cost, and/or size-constrained manner.
