An exemplary exit device system includes a pushbar assembly and a control system. The pushbar assembly includes a latch having an extended position and a retracted position, a blocking member having a blocking position in which the blocking member retains the latch in the extended position and an unblocking position in which the blocking member permits the latch to move to the retracted position, a pushbar operable to move the blocking member between the blocking position and the unblocking position, and an electronic driver operable to move the blocking member between the blocking position and the unblocking position. The control system is configured to operate the electronic driver to electrically move the blocking member between the blocking position and the unblocking position based upon information received from a credential reader.

Exit device assembly with integrated access control

An exemplary access control device includes a locking member having a locked position and an unlocked position; an electronic actuator operably connected with the locking member; a switch connected between the electronic actuator and a power supply, the switch having a closed state in which the electronic actuator is connected to the power supply and is operable to maintain the locking member in the unlocked position, the switch having an open state in which the electronic actuator is disconnected from the power supply; and a manual actuator operable to transition the switch between the open state and the closed state.

A retrofit module configured for use with a door closer having a pinion. The retrofit module generally includes a case, an output shaft, a motor, and a control assembly. The output shaft is rotatably mounted in the case, and is configured for rotational coupling with the pinion. The motor is mounted to the case, and is operable to rotate the output shaft in a door-opening direction. The control assembly is mounted to the case, and is configured to operate the motor to drive the output shaft in the door-opening direction in response to an actuating signal.

The method includes determining the kinetic energy of the door without using the weight or other dimensions of the door. The determined kinetic energy is used to adjust the closing force of an electro-mechanical door closer that includes a spring and a motor. The door includes the use of one, some of, or all of an accelerometer, an angular position sensor, a time to close, a breaking torque, and a controller to identify values a acceleration, velocity, and/or position of the door. The identified values are provided to the controller, which is configured to calculate the kinetic energy of the door. The calculated kinetic energy is used to determine the closing velocity of the door closure to ensure proper operation of the door at the point of installation.
