A composition (or an aggregate) comprising a h-BN/BNNT structure that comprises a boron nitride nanotube structure and at least a first hexagonal boron nitride structure. Also, a composition comprising at least a first epitaxial h-BN/BNNT structure and at least one metal adhered to the first epitaxial h-BN/BNNT structure. Also, a composition (or an aggregate) that comprises independent boron nitride nanotubes, in which a total mass percentage of independent hexagonal boron nitride and residual boron in the composition is not more than 35%. Also, a material comprising at least a first hexagonal boron nitride structure and at least a first boron nitride nanotube structure, wherein atoms in the first hexagonal boron nitride structure are epitaxially aligned with atoms in the first boron nitride nanotube structure that are closest to the first hexagonal boron nitride structure.

Compositions and aggregates comprising boron nitride nanotube structures, and methods of making

A composition (or an aggregate) comprising an epitaxial h-BN/BNNT structure that comprises a hexagonal boron nitride structure that is epitaxial with respect to a boron nitride nanotube structure. Also, a composition (or an aggregate) that comprises independent boron nitride nanotubes, in which a total mass percentage of independent hexagonal boron nitride and residual boron in the composition is not more than 35%. Also, a composition (or an aggregate) in which not more than 1% of independent boron nitride nanotubes and boron nitride nanotube structures have a dixie cup or bamboo defect. Also, a composition in which at least 50% of independent boron nitride nanotubes and boron nitride nanotube structures are single-wall. Also, a method of making a composition that comprises epitaxial h-BN/BNNT structures.

A high-efficiency LED lamp is disclosed. Embodiments of the invention provide a high-efficiency, high output solid-state lamp. The lamp includes an LED assembly, an optical element disposed to receive light from the LED assembly, and an optical overlay. The optical element includes a primary exit surface, wherein the primary exit surface is at least about 1.5 inches from the LED assembly. In example embodiments, the optical element is roughly cylindrical in shape, but can take other shapes and be made from various materials. An LED lamp according to some embodiments of the invention has an efficiency of at least about 160 lumens per watt. In some embodiments, the lamp has a light output of at least 1200 lumens. In some embodiments, the LED lamp produces light with a color rendering index (CRI) of at least 90 and a warm white color.

A sensor module for a lighting fixture includes a housing configured to be mounted to a lighting fixture, a light sensor mounted in the housing, and a sensor cover over the light sensor. The sensor cover includes a parallel surface and an angled surface. The parallel surface is parallel to a task surface within an area of interest, and includes a first number of lens sections, each of which are configured to focus light from a different portion of a first subset of the task surface to the light sensor. The angled surface includes a second number of lens sections, each of which extend from an edge of the parallel surface to form a facet of the angled surface and are configured to focus light from a different portion of a second subset of the task surface to the light sensor.

A sensor module for a lighting fixture includes a module housing configured to be mounted to a lighting fixture, a light sensor mounted in the module housing, and a sensor cover over the light sensor. The sensor cover includes a first surface oriented to face a task surface within an area of interest, and a second surface opposite the first surface. The first surface includes a first Fresnel lens having a number of Fresnel ridges oriented in a first direction. The second surface includes a second Fresnel lens having a number of Fresnel ridges oriented in a second direction, which is different from the first direction. Providing the first Fresnel lens and the second Fresnel lens with differently oriented Fresnel ridges allows the sensor cover to focus light from a relatively large portion of the task surface to the light sensor while remaining small.

Emergency lighting devices and methods are disclosed. An emergency lighting device includes a first group of solid state emitters configured to emit light of a first color. The emergency lighting device also includes a second group connected in series to the first group and configured to emit a second color. The groups are configured to receive a normal operation current from an LED driver at the input end of the first group and output the normal operation current at the output end of the second group. In an emergency, the first group receives an emergency operation current from an emergency LED driver at an emergency input and outputs the emergency operation current at an emergency output located.

Emergency lighting devices with LED strings

A solid state lighting apparatus can include a variable color input signal configured to indicate a target color of light output from the apparatus. A string current Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller circuit can be coupled to the variable color input signal, where the string current PWM controller circuit can be configured to generate a plurality of PWM signals having respective variable duty cycles to enable/disable respective particular string currents for respective variable times as the variable color input signal changes.

An optical waveguide body includes first and second pluralities of light extraction features disposed on a first side of the waveguide body and adapted to direct light out of the waveguide body through a second side of the waveguide body opposite the first side. Each of the first plurality of light extraction features has a linear shape and each of the second plurality of light extraction features has at least one of a piecewise linear shape and a nonlinear shape. The piecewise linear shape comprises two adjacent planar surfaces with an angle therebetween of at least about 30 and at most about 180 degrees. The waveguide body further has a light coupling cavity.

Heat management devices and structures are disclosed that can be used in lamps having solid state light sources such as one or more LEDs. Some lamp embodiments comprise one or more phase change radiators that utilize the latent heat of fluids to circulate and draw heat away from the LEDs and radiate the heat into the ambient, allowing for the LEDs to operate at a lower temperature. Some phase change radiators according to the present invention can comprise a main radiator body and multiple radiator coolant loops mounted to the body. The present invention relies on the circulation of heated fluid through the radiator body to radiate heat from the LEDs. The heated liquid moves away from the LEDs and is circulated back to thermal contact with the LEDs thought the coolant loops.

Passive phase change radiators for LED lamps and fixtures

A lighting device comprising first and second groups of solid state light emitters, that emit light having approximate dominant wavelength (in nm) of 441-448 (or 442-450, 444-455, 444-446, 442-445 or 444-452) and 555 nm to 585 nm, respectively. If the first and second groups are illuminated, a mixture of light would, in the absence of any additional light, have a color point within one or more of first, second, third, fourth and fifth areas on the 1931 CIE Chromaticity Diagram. In some embodiment, the lighting device further comprises a third group that emits light having approximate dominant wavelength (in nm) of 600-640 (or 605-610, 605-607, 600-606, 602-606 or 615-620). Semiconductor light emitting devices are provided that include a first string of light emitting diodes ('LED') that emit unsaturated light having a color point that is within at least eight MacAdam ellipses of one or more points within a first blue-shifted-yellow region on the 1931 CIE Chromaticity Diagram, a second string of LEDs that emit unsaturated light having color point that is within at least eight MacAdam ellipses from one or more points within a second blue-shifted-green region on the 1931 CIE Chromaticity Diagram, and a third light source that emits radiation having a dominant wavelength between 600 and 720 nm. A drive circuit is provided that is configured to supply a first drive current to the first string of LEDs, a second drive current to the second string of LEDs and a third drive current to the third string of LEDs, wherein at least two of the first, second and third drive currents are independently controllable.

Light emitting devices include a first string of LEDs that emit light having a color point that is within at least eight MacAdam ellipses of a first blue-shifted-yellow region on the 1931 CIE Chromaticity Diagram, a second string of LEDs that emit light having color point that is within at least eight MacAdam ellipses of a second blue-shifted-green region on the 1931 CIE Chromaticity Diagram, and a third light source that emits radiation having a dominant wavelength between 600 and 720 nm. A drive circuit supplies respective drive currents to the first string of LEDs, the second string of LEDs and the third light source, at least two of which are independently controllable.

The present disclosure relates to a lighting apparatus that includes a light engine that is coupled to a heat sink. The light engine provides a light source that generates light, and heat that is generated by the light source is dissipated, at least in part, via the heat sink.
