A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a set-top-box (STB) having a controller to join a multicast group having an associated multicast address, wherein the multicast address is associated with a first content type of a plurality of content types, access encoded content associated with the first content type from the multicast address, wherein the encoded content is transmitted by at least one source associated with the multicast group to the multicast address, decode the accessed encoded content, and display the decoded content on a channel mapped to the multicast address. Apparatus and method for displaying content

In one embodiment a method is disclosed for interacting with a controllable device in an internet protocol television (IPTV) system. The method receives at a control server, device state data for the controllable device from a first client device in the IPTV network; accesses user interface (UI) data from a database accessible to the control server; reflects the device state data in the UI data at the control server; and sends the UI data from an IPTV server to the first client device. In another embodiment a system is disclosed for interacting with a controllable device in an internet protocol television (IPTV) system. The system receives at a control server, device state data for the controllable device from a first client device in the IPTV network; accesses user interface (UI) data from a database at the control server; reflects the device state data in the UI at the control server; and sends the UI from an IPTV server to the first client device.

Home automation system and method

Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for a multimedia applications gateway. A home network management application is downloaded to the multimedia applications gateway operating in a home network. An anomaly that occurs in the home network is observed. An alert is sent to an external network controller, and the alert describes the anomaly in the home network. An instruction is received from the external network controller to remedy the anomaly.

Systems, methods, and products for multimedia applications gateways

A device for testing a home phoneline network alliance performance of a local network is disclosed. The device includes a first network interface, a second network interface, a test module, and a processor. The first network interface is adapted to connect with the local network through a first type of cable. The second network interface is adapted to connect with the local network through a second type of cable. The test module is connected to the first network interface and to the second network interface, the test module is adapted to receive a test signal transmitted over a cable in the local network. The processor is connected to the test module and is adapted to execute a plurality of program instructions to determine a signal quality for the test signal received over the cable and to output a performance result signal for the cable in the local network based on the signal quality.
