A packaging wrapper is made of material having inner and outer laminate structures bonded together. A peelable flap is defined in the wrapper by means of offset score lines in the laminate structures, the structures being bonded together in a marginal region between the score lines by means of a peelable adhesive. In one aspect of the invention, the score lines are formed using a pair of contra-rotating die cylinders positioned on opposite sides of the laminated film Each cylinder contacts a respective laminate structure and has a blade for forming a score line in that structure. In another aspect, the laminate structures are bonded together using a single peelable adhesive both within and outside of the marginal region. In a further aspect, the structures are not bonded together in at least part of the marginal region to provide a lifting tab for the flap.

Packaging

A package () is formed from a flexible laminated wrapper () having an outer laminate structure () and an inner laminate structure () and includes a tear strip () formed in the wrapper. The tear strip has an outer tear strip portion () defined between a pair of outer spaced lines of weakness () in the outer laminate structure. At least one inner line of weakness () is formed in the inner laminate structure offset from the outer lines of weakness. At least a part () of the tear strip defined in one of the outer and inner laminate structures is bonded to an overlapping region of the other of the outer and inner laminate structures in a peelable manner. An inner tear strip portion () may be defined in the inner laminate structure () between a pair of spaced inner lines of weakness ().

Packaging for a generally block shaped product () is made from a wrapper () of flexible material encasing the product. The wrapper has a foldable flap portion () adjacent an end of the package. The free edges () of the flap over-lap a further portion () of the wrapper and are bonded by means of a peelable and re- sealable adhesive (). The flap () extends fully across one face () of the package and at least partially down opposing sides to form a sealed and re-sealable closure for the package. The package can be formed using flow-wrap techniques and is particular suited for packaging chocolate bars and the like.

A flexible laminated packaging material () comprises a plurality of layers, at least two of which are bonded together by a layer of adhesive (). A first layer () comprises a continuous metallic foil () and a second layer () comprises a continuous web of material incorporating or coated with a laser retardant additive (). The material may be scored or cut with a laser () so as to produce offset scores or cuts () wherein a first cut () is made through the first layer (), but not past the second layer () and a second cut () is made through the second layer (), but not past the first layer (). The laser retardant additive () attenuates the power of the laser to help control the depth of the cuts. A method of producing the material by laminating the first and second layers using an adhesive is also disclosed. The method may comprise applying a laser beam to the first web so as to score or cut the first web, but not the second web; and applying a laser beam to the second web so as to score of cut the second web, but not the first web.

Laminated material and method of production thereof

A packaging method comprises dispensing a material continuously from a roll, forming a plurality of packages from the material, filling each package with contents and sealing each package once filled. A hanging aperture is created for each package, prior to it being formed into the package, the material having been folded or creased in the area in which the aperture is to be created.
