Example methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture (e.g., physical storage media) to implement multi-plane image (MPI) compression are disclosed. Example apparatus disclosed herein include an interface to access an input multiplane image stack corresponding to a source camera viewpoint, the input multiplane image stack including a plurality of texture images and a corresponding plurality of alpha images, ones of the alpha images including pixel values representative of transparency of corresponding pixels in respective ones of the texture images. Disclosed example apparatus also include a compressed image encoder to at least one of (i) convert the plurality of texture images to a single composite texture image to generate a compressed multiplane image stack, or (ii) convert the plurality of alpha images to a single composite alpha image to generate the compressed multiplane image stack. In some disclosed examples, the interface is to output the compressed multiplane image stack.

Techniques related to video coding using look ahead analysis and block based back propagation for block level quantization parameters are discussed. Such techniques include adaptively selecting frames subsequent to a target frame in a display order for use in the back propagation, propagating values to blocks of the target frame that are indicative of the importance of the blocks to the encode of the subsequent frames, and encoding the target frame using block level quantization parameters based on the propagated values.

The display controller can wake up from the dynamic sleep state and enter a selective update state at a programmed vertical blanking interrupt (VBI) that precedes an actual VBI. The display controller can perform a scan-out with a display panel during the selective update state. The display controller can return to the dynamic sleep state in a same time frame after the scan-out is completed. The display controller can exclude timing logic to send a VBI at every time frame to the display panel to maintain time synchronization between the display controller and the display panel.

Additionally, a plurality of auxiliary bitstreams may be generated, in response to the static condition, based on the video signal. Each of the plurality of auxiliary bitstreams may be encoded with full resolution chroma information. In one example, a video receiver may detect that the auxiliary bitstreams are associated with the primary bitstream, decode the primary bitstream and the plurality of auxiliary bitstreams to obtain luma information and the full resolution chroma information, and multiplex the luma information with the full resolution chroma information.
