Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for automatically shutting down idle virtual machines (VMs). One method includes an operation for determining a number of active connections of a VM. The method further includes checking disconnect rules to determine automatic shutting down of the VM. The disconnect rules are based on the number of active connections of the VM, and the disconnect rules define criteria for determining when to shut down the VM automatically. The method further includes, based on determining to automatically shut down the VM, sending a message indicating the VM is inactive to a VM manager program executing at a cloud-service provider. The VM manager program is configured to shut down the VM in response to receiving the message indicating the VM is inactive.

A client application is specified by a target tenant and represented in an OAuth provider, along with a corresponding secret. A source tenant consents to permissions to be executed by the client application on a resource of the source tenant. A target service uses the secret to obtain an access token from an authorization server coupled to the source tenant and uses the access token to obtain access, specified by the permissions, to the resource served by a source service acting on behalf of the source tenant.

In a multi-tenant computing system, a cross-tenant user search system receives a user search input from a user using a client of a first tenant. The cross-tenant user search system accesses a policy that identifies one or more related tenants that are related to the first tenant. The policy also identifies directory records of users in the related tenant that can be searched by users of the first tenant. The cross-tenant user search system executes a search against a directory for the first tenant and executes a separate search against the directory records in the related tenants, identified in the policy. The search results from searching the directory for the first tenant and the related search results from searching the directory records in the tenant are aggregated into an aggregated set of search results which are then returned to the client.

A shared work space application provides a work space that is commonly accessible across devices and applications so that a user can select and drop items into the shared work space and then pick them up again later using the same or different devices and applications. The shared work space application can use available inputs and data to surface contextually-relevant reminders to the user that there are items in the shared work space that he or she has not finished using. A task or project can be completed from within a variety of different applications and devices using the shared work space and items can be combined into a single object for sharing with one or more of the user's contacts. The shared work space application can also provide a convenient launch point into other communication applications and sharing experiences.

Techniques for application launching in a multi-display device are described. In one or more implementations, an apparatus such as a mobile device includes multiple interconnected display devices. According to one or more implementations, techniques described herein enable application launching behavior to be determined based on context information. For instance, based on a determined context condition of a multi-display client device, an application launch behavior is determined and used to launch an application on the client device.

A hybrid configuration engine and associated method for reducing the complexity and burden of configuring rich coexistence between an on-premise solution and a cloud-based solution is described herein and illustrated in the accompanying figures. The hybrid configuration engine determines the current state of the on-premise solution and the cloud-based solution and learns the desired configuration state. After obtaining the current and desired configuration state information, the hybrid configuration engine determines and automatically performs steps to reach the desired configuration state. Finally, the hybrid configuration engine provides instructions describing the manual steps needed to reach the desired configuration state.

An electronic communication device and method for communication including automatically selecting, composing, and/or presenting a number of proposed responses to a message is disclosed. The device can present the incoming message content to the user together with an alert to the user that one or more proposed responses are available for review and selection. The device can calculate a confidence metric for each proposed response. The user alert and/or presentation of the messages can be made to vary in intensity in accordance with the confidence metric of the one or more proposed responses. The presentation of the proposed responses can be alternated and/or combined with a method for the device to receive user input to the content of the proposed response. The user can edit a proposed response rather than composing a complete response.
