A surface-controlled wireline-retrievable safety valve includes a seat housing having a plurality of flow ports that is configured to house a hard seat. A closure device has a plurality of equalization ports, is disposed within the seat housing, and is configured to controllably move off the hard seat and expose the plurality of flow ports to a central lumen of the safety valve under hydraulic actuation. A power piston having a shoulder portion includes a top end that is attached to the closure device and the shoulder portion is disposed within a hydraulic chamber housing forming a differential area. A hydraulic actuation port may be configured to receive hydraulic actuation fluid from a surface pump. A hydraulic passage may be configured to convey the hydraulic actuation fluid from the hydraulic actuation port to the differential area via a hydraulic access port.

Surface controlled wireline retrievable safety valve

A subsurface safety valve system for a wellbore is described. The system can include a tubular housing disposed within the wellbore having a cavity running in a longitudinal direction therethrough. The system can also include an electromagnetic device configured to receive electric power to create a magnetic field, and a flapper operative to open and close the cavity in response to the electric power received by the electromagnetic device. The flapper may open in response to the electric power exceeding a first electric power value and remain open in response to the electric power exceeding a second electric power value which is lower than the first electric power value.

Low-power electric safety valve

An injection sleeve and apparatus for injecting fluid into a well includes a flow tube having a piston which upon fluid flow opens one or more outlet ports. The injection sleeve is adapted to include a variable orifice insert which prevents flow through the tool at a first selected pressure level until the outlet ports are in an open position, thereby protecting packing seals on either side of the outlet ports from undue wear and tear, and prolonging the life of the tool. At a second pressure level, the variable orifice insert permits flow through injection sleeve to the formation injection zones. A plurality of the sleeves may be used for sequentially injecting fluid into a plurality of injection formation zones surrounding a well. When injection fluid flow is terminated, the injection sleeves act as a dual barrier valve for preventing flow from the injection formation zones back to the well head.

Method and apparatus for injecting fluid into spaced injection zones in an oil/gas well

A method and apparatus for completing a well that includes a subsurface barrier valve utilizes an injection valve which includes a variable orifice insert. The injection valve includes a mechanism for sensing pressure cycles that are employed during various well completion operations including pressure testing. The mechanism includes an indexing sleeve which will disable pressure functionality. Once this occurs, pressure cycling to open the barrier valve can proceed. Once the barrier valve opens, flow alone controls the injection valve during normal operations.

Pressure cycle actuated injection valve

In a fracking context the object that will ultimately block a passage in an isolation device is introduced into the zone with the bottom hole assembly. The object is not released until the guns fire to create a pressure spike in the borehole that triggers the object retaining device to release the object. The retaining device is placed in close proximity to the isolation device and its setting tool to allow a larger object and passage in the isolation device to be used. If the guns misfire, the object is not released and comes out with the guns. The replacement guns can be pumped in because the passage in the isolation device has stayed open during the misfire. Direct and indirect object release in response to pressure created from the firing of the guns is contemplated.

A high flow downhole lock assembly includes a mandrel with a plurality of external collet finger detents disposed about an exterior surface and an unobstructed inner diameter configured for flow, an external collet with a plurality of collet fingers disposed about an interior surface, and a dog housing with a plurality of extendable retaining dogs. When transitioning to a set configuration, a portion of the mandrel travels within the external collet, the plurality of collet fingers come to rest in one or more of the external collet finger detents, and the plurality of extendable retaining dogs are extended.

High flow downhole lock

A wireline retrievable injection valve for an oil or gas well has an internal valve that is initially moved to open a flapper safety valve and also opens to allow fluid flow through the valve. The internal valve includes a sleeve that opens the flapper safety valve and shields the flapper safety valve from fluid. In this manner the flapper valve is protected from being caused to 'flutter' or 'chatter' due to pressure variations in the fluid flow, which may damage the seat.

A protective sleeve is deployable within an oil/gas well to protect a device installed in the well such as a safety valve, for example. The sleeve includes a pressure equalizing dart and an overpressure protection piston. The sleeve also serves to isolate an installed device from harmful substances such as acids and other corrosive fluids.

According to one or more embodiments disclosed herein is a method of transporting equipment between sea-surface and seafloor by providing a structure with a subsea equipment package mounted thereon. The structure is used for installation and recovery in a subsea environment by changing the buoyancy of the structure or ballasting the structure to effect a controlled sinking motion.

Multi-vessel process to install and recover subsea equipment packages

A shifting sleeve has differential piston areas so that applied pressure displaces the sleeve against spring bias, which preferably is a series of Belleville washer stacks associated with modular mandrel components, to obtain the desired opposing force to the movement initiated with pressure applied to differential piston areas. An indexing feature is located between the sleeve and the mandrel passage wall and on a predetermined number of cycles disables the Belleville washer stacks from biasing the sleeve in an opposed direction as when pressure is applied. At this time the pressure in the mandrel acting on the differential piston area simply shifts the sleeve to open a lateral port so that fracturing through the cement that was earlier placed with the port closed can take place.

Pressure actuated ported sub for subterranean cement completions

A ported sub is operated with a pressure actuated shifting sleeve. A first rupture disc is set at a lower pressure than the test pressure for the tubing string that houses the ported sub. The first rupture disc breaks at a lower pressure than the string test pressure to expose well fluids to a disintegrating plug. The plug slowly disintegrates to then expose tubing pressure to a chamber and a second rupture disc with the chamber configured to have no effect on moving the sliding sleeve. When the tubing pressure is then raised to a predetermined pressure below the test pressure for the string, the second disc breaks exposing a piston to tubing pressure on one side and trapped low pressure being the opposite side of the string. The differential moves the sleeve to open a port to let tools be pumped into position without a need to perforate.

Delayed opening pressure actuated ported sub for subterranean use

A method of completing a well includes, positioning at least one valve within a tubular, closing the at least one valve, pressuring up against the closed at least one valve in a first direction, actuating a tool or treating a formation, opening the at least one valve without intervention, and flowing fluid past the at least one valve in a second direction.
