A mixed reality (MR) system is disclosed. The MR system may determine a first predicted head pose corresponding to a time that virtual reality imagery is rendered, determine a second predicted head pose corresponding to a selected point in time during a camera shutter period, and combine the virtual reality imagery with the stereoscopic imagery based on the first predicted head pose and the second predicted head pose. A simulator that employs remote (e.g., cloud) rendering is also disclosed. The simulator/client device may determine a first pose (e.g., vehicle pose and/or head pose), receive video imagery rendered by a remote server based on the first pose, and apply a timewarp correction to the video imagery based on a comparison of the first pose and a second pose.

A training data management method and related system is disclosed comprising three integrated elements. A training data network may provide a network linking a remote instructor operating an off-board data network with a student operating an onboard data network. The remote instructor may, via the datalink connection, maintain a level of control of the data set available to the student. A method for providing training data may include an onboard and off-board safety monitor configured for perceiving a safety event and sending a notification thereof to an involved participant. A system for providing training data may include a data guard configured to monitor all communications between two networks and block sensitive information, training data, and classified communications between the networks.

Training data management method and related system

A system and method are disclosed for offering a trainee presentation blending live and virtual entities to create a training scenario unconstrained by live entity operational performance and geographical limitations. The system blends an instance of a virtual entity with an actual presentation of a live entity within a trainee presentation. Outside of trainee local sensor range, the system presents a virtual entity to the trainee while occluding local sensor presentation of the live entity. As the scenario progresses to a lessor range or higher criticality, the system offers the live entity emulation information concerning characteristics of the virtual entity so the live entity may anticipate and begin to emulate the virtual. At a crossover point, the system determines if the live entity has successfully emulated the virtual and if so, discontinues presentation of the virtual while removing the occlusion allowing presentation of the live entity.

Virtual/live hybrid behavior to mitigate range and behavior constraints

Methods and systems for identifying and displaying potentially hazardous segments on a planned route of a vehicle are disclosed. A method may include: predicting a movement of a condition of concern; analyzing the movement of the condition of concern and a movement of a vehicle traveling along a planned route to generate a projection of the condition of concern onto the planned route, wherein the projection indicates conditions the vehicle is predicted to encounter at a plurality of positions along the planned route; determining whether a portion of the planned route is potentially hazardous based on the projection of the condition of concern; and visually identifying the portion of the planned route that is potentially hazardous to a user. The method may also be utilized to facilitate a reroute process.

Display and control of time evolved conditions relative to a vehicle

A method and system are disclosed for stereoscopic three dimensional (S3D) display of synthetic environment (SE) data simultaneously with operational symbology data to the operator of a vehicle. The method receives a plurality of data objects and places the objects within a plurality of levels of a presentation hierarchy and further within a plurality of S3D depth layers based on a set of data and operator focused rules. The method simultaneously displays to the operator each of the plurality of objects in the plurality of S3D depth layers according to the placement. The method transitions an object from one depth layer to a more proximal or distal depth layer to indicate relative motion or urgency. The method reserves a depth layer most proximal to the operator for a warning while a most distal set of depth layers is reserved for SE objects.

Synthetic environments with stereoscopic avionics displays system and related method

A system and related method is disclosed for applying a training tag to an entity within a training scenario and presenting the entity based on the applied tag. The method receives sensor data from of a plurality of onboard sensors, truth data and state data via a training and tactical network, and simulation data representative of Live, Virtual and Constructive training entities. The method applies Multi Sensor Integration techniques to the received data to display a single presentation where appropriate within the scenario. Based on a defined set of attributes, the method attaches a training specific tag to each integrated representative data set and applies a rules set to determine whether and how to present each received and tagged training entity to a trainee.

Training target tagging system and related method

A system and method is disclosed for correlation of received objects offering a valid presentation to an operator. The method correlates actual objects and simulated objects to offer a valuable training presentation environment to an operator. The method may receive a plurality of data streams including sensed data, simulated sensed data, and truth data to correlate among the plurality of data to determine if the data corresponds to a common object. Each of these data streams may be received from an off-board source via datalink or generated by an onboard simulation data source. The system correlates data received from an onboard source with data received from an off-board source to present the best available training scenario to the operator.

Embedded simulator method and related system

Present novel and non-trivial systems and methods for embedding aircraft attitude data within a pixel data set and detecting inconsistent aircraft attitude information are disclosed. A pixel data set representative of the scene outside the aircraft is generated based upon the navigation data and the terrain data, attitude-exclusive data is generated based upon orientation data, and attitude-exclusive data is embedded into the pixel data set to form an embedded pixel data set. Attitude-exclusive data is comprised of attitude-exclusive pixel data having first and second pixel locations or attitude-exclusive ancillary data. Attitude-exclusive data is compared against separately-provided reference attitude data for the purpose of detecting inconsistent attitude information. Inconsistent attitude information is detected when at least one attitude measurement determined from either the attitude-exclusive pixel data or the attitude-exclusive ancillary data does not equal the respective attitude measurement of the reference attitude data.

Systems and methods for embedding aircraft attitude data and detecting inconsistent aircraft attitude information

Present novel and non-trivial system, module, and method for generating non-linearly spaced graduations for a symbolic linear scale are disclosed. Symbology data representative of a scale having non-linear graduations is generated as a function of a graduation reference assigned to each graduation, navigation reference data provided from an appropriate source, and a constant. Navigation reference data comprises pitch attitude data and/or aircraft heading data, from which a symbolic pitch attitude scale and/or heading scale is generated. Current attitude and/or heading may be used as a central reference from which spacing is measured, and the value of the constant is dependent on the size of the scale occupied on the screen of a display unit. Each symbolic linear scale may be merged with data representative of the scene outside the aircraft and presented on the screen along with a flight path predictor mapped to the non-linear scale.

A system is disclosed that could provide a processor with terrain elevation data from a plurality of terrain elevations data sets having differing resolution and accuracy parameters, a per-point error metric data from a plurality of error metric data sets, and a common resolution parameter. A method is disclosed which for combining terrain elevation data sets having difference resolutions into a single, combined terrain elevation data set having a common resolution utilizing a per-point error metric data from a plurality of error metric data sets. A second method is disclosed for combining a plurality of terrain elevation data sets having different resolutions into terrain elevation data of a single, combined terrain elevation data set having a common resolution by transforming the plurality of terrain elevation data sets into a plurality of terrain frequency data sets and filtering the terrain frequency data sets utilizing a Kalman filter.

Systems and methods for combining a plurality of terrain databases into one terrain database

The present invention is directed to a method of positioning perspective terrain on a SVS (Synthetic Vision System) based on a navigation solution, the vertical component of which is calculated utilizing a terrain database and sensing unit (which provides height above terrain). The terrain database provides elevation of terrain above MSL. A sensor, such as a GNSS sensor, may be utilized to calculate the navigation solution. In alternative embodiments, the navigation solution is calculated differently based upon the phase of flight. In one, the vertical component calculation utilizes the sensing unit at or below the sensing unit's rated altitude. In another, vertical component calculation blends the sensing unit with the sensor. The blending may be based upon percentages based upon altitude or utilize filtering such as Kalman filtering. The present invention is particularly advantageous for close to ground operations, insuring perspective terrain will stay consistent with the real world.

Method of positioning perspective terrain on SVS primary flight displays using terrain database and radio altitude

A novel and non-trivial system and methods for displaying partial images and non-overlapping images acquired by vision systems representing scene is disclosed. A system is disclosed for displaying partial images and shared, non-overlapping images on a display comprises a forward-looking imaging device system, an image system, a terrain rendering processor, and an indicating system. The terrain rendering processor determines, based on visibility data, which part of an image of one system will be displayed. A method is disclosed for displaying a partial image on a display unit. A terrain rendering processor determines acceptable and unacceptable visibility data based on contrast data of first image data, and based on such determination, presents image data corresponding to unacceptable data to the indicating system for presentation on a display unit. A second method is disclosed for displaying two images on a display unit of an aircraft. A terrain rendering processor determines acceptable and unacceptable visibility data based on contrast data of first image data, and based on such determination, presents image data corresponding to both acceptable and unacceptable data to the indicating system for presentation on a display unit.

System and methods for displaying a partial images and non-overlapping, shared-screen partial images acquired from vision systems

A display system for a vehicle is provided. The display system includes a display configured to render a representation of an intended vehicle path. At least one relative speed indicator is rendered upon the display. The at least one relative speed indicator is configured to move along the representation of the intended vehicle path, in an area of the display that is peripheral to a focus area of the display, in response to a difference between an actual value of a speed-based parameter and a preferred value of a speed-based parameter of the vehicle.
