A removable intravascular filter having a filtering configuration for capturing thrombi in a blood vessel and a retrieval configuration for removal from the blood vessel. The filter may be implanted in a patient's vena cava and may be removed from the vena cava through the patient's jugular or femoral vein. A method of removing an intravascular filter from a patient's vena cava through the patient's femoral vein is also provided.

An intravascular filter configured for upstream or downstream retrieval and a method for retrieving an intravascular filter from a patient's vena cava through the patient's femoral vein. The filter includes a downstream hub, an upstream hub, a plurality of primary struts extending from the downstream hub to the upstream hub, a plurality of secondary struts extending upstream from fixed ends housed in the downstream hub to free ends, secondary strut eyelets disposed at the free ends of the secondary struts, a loop member disposed through the secondary strut eyelets, an upstream coupling element disposed with the upstream hub, and a tether extending from the loop member to the upstream coupling element.

A coupling wire guide for intracorporeal procedures that may be coupled to a previously introduced wire guide, thereby permitting introduction of the coupling wire guide separately and identically in a manner that is both reliable as well as traceable. One embodiment of the wire guide includes a main body having a distal end and a tip portion connected to the distal end of the main body. The tip portion defines an axial passageway having a distal opening and a proximal opening, the passageway being sized to receive a second wire guide therein. The tip portion includes a linking member connected to the distal end of the main body to provide a secure connection between the distal end of the main body and the tip portion.

The present invention provides a wire guide () suitable for use in a body vessel, such as a peripheral vessel. The wire guide comprises a core member () and a first coiled member (), each having proximal and distal ends. In one embodiment, the core member comprises at least one recessed portion (), wherein the proximal end of the first coiled member is seated at least partially within the recessed portion to form a substantially flush exterior surface with the core member. The wire guide further preferably comprises a second coiled member () having proximal and distal ends, wherein the second coiled member is disposed distal to the first coiled member. The distal end of the first coiled member may be partially intertwined with the proximal end of. the second coiled member. A shaping ribbon () may be disposed substantially beneath the second coiled member to achieve a desired curvature at the distal tip of the wire guide.

A medical grasping device () for vascular use, having an outer sheath (), an elongate control member () extending within an outer sheath () to a distal tip section (), and a proximal control assembly () including an actuation section () joined to the elongate control member (). Adjacent to the distal tip section () is a grasping portion (') that is extendable from the outer sheath () to create loops (&#x2032;) for grasping a target object (T) for repositioning within the vascular system, or for removal from the patient, with loops being retractable into the outer sheath to hold the target object against the device () during movement of the device. Elongate control member () is preferably a cannula or tube having a lumen () extending completely therethrough for placement over a guide wire () already in the patient.

Medical grasping device

An apparatus and method for inserting an article into a body opening. A radially expandable introducer sheath is delivered in a non-expanded condition into a body opening. A release mechanism releases the introducer sheath from the non-expanded condition into a condition that permits radial expansion of the introducer sheath upon introduction of a medical device through the sheath into the body opening. An optional handle having a circumferential opening may be provided for withdrawing the sheath from the body opening, while leaving the medical device in place.
