A digital content transmission and reception system that uses feedback and re-transmission of missing content is described. A content transmission system broadcasts a complete set of digital content to a plurality of content reception systems via a communication link. A content reception system receives a corresponding incomplete set of digital content, determines particular content portions that are missing, and provided feedback indicating the missing content portions to the content distribution system. The content distribution system the re-transmits content based on the feedback.

Correcting for data losses with feedback and response

Streaming broadcast information over a network is associated with metadata indicative of the broadcast information. The metadata describes the structure of the package as well as the content. The metadata may be bound to the content, and any of the number of clients may receive this metadata and filter it according to prestored criteria. Desired content can be obtained based on the thus filtered information.

A service provider broadcast system and method are described. The method includes acquiring network service information regarding broadcast service content to be broadcast by a broadcast service system over a predetermined period. Using the network service information, a composite content list is created, including meta-data describing service provider content available from the service provider system and the broadcast service content. The composite content listed is broadcast to client systems, which in turn, provide ratings for the service provider and broadcast service content described by the composite content list. Using the received ratings, the service provider system selects a portion of the broadcast service content and generates a broadcast schedule for the selected content. The broadcast schedule is then broadcast to the client systems to enable the client systems to store one or more of the content data files from the selected portion of the broadcast service content.

Method and apparatus for combining broadcast schedules and content on a digital broadcast-enabled client platform

Programming code, such as dynamically loadable program code used in object oriented programming languages, may be pushed over a unidirectional communication link, such as though a transmitter tower transmission or one-way networking communication protocol. A manifest is created that includes identifiers of programming code that will be pushed onto the unidirectional communication link, where the manifest includes a push schedule. A receiver of the manifest retrieves pushed code of interest according to the schedule. Purchasing data may also be included in the manifest. Programming code may include decryption techniques to allow for pay-per-use retrieval of premium content.
