Methods, systems, and devices that support techniques for a smart monitoring system are described. A system may monitor a physical environment using a camera-enabled device operating in a first mode of a set of modes. The system may determine one or more parameters based on the monitoring. The parameters may include an identity of an entity, a behavior of the entity, or a setting of the security and automation system, or any combination thereof. The system may perform an operation based on the one or more parameters. The techniques described herein may deter an intruder from an intended action (e.g., theft, property damage, etc.) and/or provide lighting to a user of the security and automation system, among other benefits.

Techniques for a smart monitoring system

An induction-powered camera may be capable of being installed external to a building without any building alterations. The induction-powered camera may include a continuous power source. The induction-powered camera may transmit one or more images to a control panel associated with security and/or automation systems. The induction-powered camera may be movable and/or removable with undue burden. In one example, an apparatus for a security and/or automation system is described. The apparatus may include a first half of the apparatus and an electricity transmission unit positioned within the first half. An electricity receiving unit may be positioned a predetermined distance away from the electricity transmission unit. The electricity receiving unit proximate a second half of the apparatus and a camera may be proximate the second half of the apparatus, the camera powered by the electricity receiving unit.

Induction-powered camera

A method for security and/or automation systems is described. In one embodiment, the method may include receiving image data associated with an area via an image sensor, receiving sound data associated with an object via an audio sensor, analyzing the image data in relation to the sound data, detecting an object's presence based at least in part on the analyzing, and identifying at least one characteristic relating to the object based at least in part on the detecting.

Sonic sensing

Methods, systems, and devices for a smart monitoring system are described. A system may include a camera-enabled device configured to monitor a physical environment using the camera-enabled device. The system may detect a trigger in the physical environment based on the monitoring, where the trigger includes an object, a person, an event, or any combination thereof. The system may select, based on the detecting, a direction of a set of directions to emit light via a light emitting source. The system may activate the light emitting source based on the selecting. The system may emit, via the light emitting source, the light in the direction based on the activating and the detected trigger. The techniques described herein may deter an intruder from an intended action (e.g., theft, property damage, etc.) and/or provide lighting to a user of the security and automation system, among other benefits.

Smart monitoring system

Methods and systems are described for operating a wall mounted thermostat. An example computer-implemented method includes receiving an indication of a physical touch to an exposed portion of a housing of the thermostat, wherein the housing is movable when touched. The method also includes determining a thermostat command associated with where the housing is touched and movement of the housing in response to the touch, and operating the thermostat according to the determined thermostat command.

According to at least one embodiment, a computer-implemented method to interface with an automation system is disclosed. One or more activation parameters and deactivation parameters may be identified associated with a mobile control panel. A concealed interface of the mobile control panel may be activated based at least in part on the one or more activation parameters. The activated interface of the mobile control panel may be deactivated based at least in part on one or more sleep parameters.

Interface of an automation system

A method for security and/or automation systems is described. In one embodiment, the method may include receiving, at a power adapter, power from a power supply, routing a first portion of the power received from the power supply to the doorbell unit, and routing a second portion of the power received from the power supply to both the device of the doorbell unit and the doorbell chime when the doorbell button is being actuated. In some cases, the power adapter is wired, via doorbell wiring, to at least one of a doorbell chime, a doorbell unit, and the power supply. In one example, the first portion of power is routed to power a device of the doorbell unit when a doorbell button of the doorbell unit is not being actuated.

Active power management

A method for security and/or automation systems is described. In one embodiment, the method may include detecting a first sound event at a home entry point using one or more sensors. The method may further include receiving input to associate at least one home automation system operation with the first sound event, and may further include storing the first sound event. The method may further include initiating the at least one home automation system operation associated with the first sound event.

System and methods for correlating sound events to security and/or automation system operations

Methods and systems are described for monitoring a monitored space. An example computer-implemented method for monitoring a monitored space includes periodically emitting with an active infrared sensor a modulated infrared signal into a monitored space being monitored by a home automation system, receiving with the active infrared sensor the modulated infrared signals reflected from objects in the monitored space, and determining at least one of whether a number of objects in the monitored space have changed and whether any of the objects are moving.

In some embodiments, systems, methods, and techniques relating to security and/or automation systems, collectively referred to as automation systems, may include determining a presence of a first device proximate at least one entry to a location, obtaining information related to an identification of an entity associated with the at least one device, authenticating the first device, the authenticating based at least in part on obtaining information related to the identification, and taking an action based at least in part on determining the authenticity.
