This invention provides SRS transmission methods to meet the Massive MIMO systems requirements. These methods are described in two separate categories. Firstly, enhancements to multiplex more channels in the same resources for a given SRS transmission and to provide Massive MIMO throughput performance improvements. Secondly, scheduling enhancements to provide adaptive UE-specific scheduling based on channel conditions for each UE. These methods can be combined in different ways in each BS to optimize the channel estimation system capacity for a given level of system performance.

There is provided a multi-core system that includes a lower-subsystem including a first processor and a number of slave processing cores. Each of the slave processing cores can be a coprocessor or a digital signal processor. The first processor is configured to control processing on the slave processing cores and includes a system dispatcher configured to control transactions for execution on the slave processing cores. The system dispatcher is configured to generate the transactions to be executed on the slave processing cores. The first processor can include a number of hardware drivers for receiving the transactions from the system dispatcher and providing the transactions to the slave processing cores for execution. The multi-core system can further include an upper sub-system in communication with the lower-subsystem and including a second processor configured to provide protocol processing.

There is provided a highly distributed multi-core system with an adaptive scheduler. By resolving data dependencies in a given list of parallel tasks and selecting a subset of tasks to execute based on provided software priorities, applications can be executed in a highly distributed manner across several types of slave processing cores. Moreover, by overriding provided priorities as necessary to adapt to hardware or other system requirements, the task scheduler may provide for low-level hardware optimizations that enable the timely completion of time-sensitive workloads, which may be of particular interest for real-time applications. Through this modularization of software development and hardware optimization, the conventional demand on application programmers to micromanage multi-core processing for optimal performance is thus avoided, thereby streamlining development and providing a higher quality end product.

A modem detection method is provided for use by a first gateway, the first gateway capable of communicating with a second gateway over a packet network. The method comprises setting the first gateway to a voice mode having a first coding scheme, encoding an input signal using the first coding scheme to generate a first encoded input signal, transmitting the first encoded input signal to the second gateway over the packet network, looking for a first tone in the input signal while the first gateway is in the voice mode, wherein the first tone is indicative of a beginning of a character, detecting the first tone in the input signal; setting the first gateway from the voice mode to a modem mode in response to the detecting; and transmitting the input signal to the second gateway according to the modem mode.

Text telephone modem communications over packet networks

Various high speed modem embodiments are provided, for example, having a receiver configured to receive an analog data signal over a telephone line from a first modem, from which digitized analog data signal samples are generated by a processor employing a linear coding process using, for example, a sampling rate of at least 16 kHz with an 8 bits/sample. Following, the digitized analog data signal samples are transmitted over one or more digital lines of a first time division multiplexed bus to a second modem, which may be a digital loop carrier modem, for example. Thereafter, the second modem may demodulate the digitized analog data signal samples to generate digitized data, which may then be transmitted over one or more digital signal lines of a second time division multiplexed bus.

High speed modem

A communication system is provided for transferring data through a digital switching network. The communication system includes a client modem, a linecard in communication with the client modem over a local loop, and a linecard modem interfacing with the linecard and the digital switching network. The client modem modulates client data to generate modulated client data for transmission to the linecard over the local loop, and the linecard modem receives the modulated client data from the linecard and demodulates the modulated client data to generate the client data for transmission through the digital switching network. Further, the linecard modem modulates network data from the digital switching network to generate modulated network data for transmission to the client modem over the local loop, and the client modem receives and demodulates the modulated network data to generate the network data.

In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, the detection of voice signals versus modem signals in a data communication system may be conducted, a determination can be made whether existing VoIP algorithm functions or characteristics may be appropriate for modem communications, and then the VoIP algorithms may be modified to improve operating conditions for a modem connection. Additionally, the existing VoIP algorithm functions and network characteristics within the data communication system that may degrade modem performance can be identified prior to the determination of whether the VoIP algorithm functions are appropriate for modem communications. In accordance with another aspect, the detection between voice signals and modem signals can also comprise the determination as to a particular type of modems signal. Further, control of the adaptive jitter buffer to remove or reduce adaptation during detection of modem signals can be provided.

Methods and apparatus for data communications on packet networks

There is provided system and method for communication over a network, which includes a first gateway and a second gateway capable of communicating with each other using a packet protocol. Each gateway is capable of communicating with a local communication device, such as a modem device, over a telephone line. In modem relay mode, each gateway is capable of detecting V.8bis signals from the communication devices, blocking such V.8bis signals, and switching to modem relay mode in response to such detection. In modem pass through mode, each gateway is capable of detecting V.8bis signals from the communication devices and switching to modem pass through mode in response to such detection.

System and method for handling V.8bis signals for modem connections over packet networks

An initialization procedure for a digital modem system treats the presence of ADPCM as if it were a digital impairment such that the modem system can utilize effective compensation techniques to address the ADPCM. The modem system initially determines whether the current communication channel is a fully digital channel. Next, the modem system determines whether the channel includes any ADPCM elements. If ADPCM is detected, then a digital impairment learning routine is performed to obtain the ADPCM compression characteristics and data rate. The digital impairment learning routine may use a single probing sequence to obtain the ADPCM characteristics while identifying any concurrent digital impairments such as RBS, digital pads, and encoding law conversions. Once the digital channel is characterized, the modem system may condition its transmitters and receivers in an appropriate manner to obtain an increased data rate.
