A plate assembly for a heat exchanger includes a first plate, a second plate, and an intermediate plate arranged between the first and second plates. The intermediate plate is joined to the first and second plates at peripheral edges to create a sealed periphery of the plate assembly. Corrugations of the intermediate plate provide crests and troughs that are in contact with inwardly facing surfaces of the first and second plates. The plate assembly can be configured as a battery cooling plate heat exchanger to transfer heat from a battery to fluid flowing through the plate assembly.

Plate assembly for heat exchanger

A liquid to refrigerant heat exchanger is provided having a stack of nested plates with fluid flow passages defined between the plates. The stack includes a condenser portion and a subcooler portion. A base plate at a bottom end of the stack has a refrigerant outlet port and a receiver bottle joined to it. A receiver flow path extends through a structural connection joining the receiver bottle to the base plate to allow for fluid flow between an internal volume of the receiver bottle and the condenser portion. Another receiver flow path extends through another structural connection to allow for fluid flow between an internal volume of the receiver bottle and the subcooler portion.

Liquid to refrigerant heat exchanger, and method of operating the same

A charge air cooler includes a first, second, and third heat exchange sections. In the first heat exchange section, heat is transferred from a first flow of liquid coolant to a refrigerant in order to cool the first flow of liquid coolant from a first temperature to a second temperature. In the second heat exchange section, heat is transferred from a flow of charge air to a second flow of liquid coolant in order to cool the flow of charge air from a third temperature to a fourth temperature. In the third heat exchange section, heat is transferred from the flow of charge air to the first flow of liquid coolant in order to cool the flow of charge air from the fourth temperature to a fifth temperature, the fifth temperature being less than the first temperature.

Charge air cooler and method

A cooled gear housing includes a first casing section and a second casing section joined together to define an internal volume of the gear housing assembly. A heat conducting membrane is arranged within the gear housing assembly to hydraulically separate a first portion of the internal volume from a second portion of the internal volume. Two or more meshed gears are located within the first portion of the internal volume. Coolant inlet and outlet ports are arranged on one of the casing sections, and are in fluid communication with the second portion of the internal volume.

Cooled gear housing assembly

An air intake manifold for an engine includes an air inlet to receive a flow of compressed charge air, and multiple runners to deliver cooled compressed charge air to corresponding combustion cylinders of the engine. A charge air cooler is arranged within the intake manifold between the air inlet and the runners, and includes a first core section and a second core section. The first and second core sections are arranged fluidly in parallel with respect to the flow of compressed charge air, so that the charge air is divided into a first portion that is substantially directed through the first core section to a first subset of the runners, and a second portion that is substantially directed through the second core section to a second subset of the runners.

Charge air cooler, and intake manifold including the same

A charge air cooler includes a housing and a heat exchanger core positioned within the housing. The heat exchanger core includes a first core section, a second core section, and a centrally located section positioned between the first core section and the second core section. The charge air cooler also includes a plurality of coolant circuits. Each coolant circuit extends through at least one of the first and second core sections. The charge air cooler further includes a coolant inlet extending from the centrally located section to deliver coolant to the plurality of coolant circuits, and a coolant outlet extending from the centrally located section to receive coolant from the plurality of coolant circuits. The charge air cooler also includes a fastener extending through the centrally located section of the core to secure the core to the housing.

The present invention provides a charge air cooler for transferring heat between a coolant and charge air including a charge air inlet tank, a charge air outlet tank spaced from the inlet tank, a housing connecting the inlet and outlet tanks to define a charge air flow path from the inlet tank to the outlet tank, and a plurality of plate pairs extending into the charge air flow path from, and substantially perpendicular to, a first wall of the housing. Each of the plate pairs can define a multi-pass path for the coolant. Elongated spacers can be positioned between adjacent plate pairs to define the first wall of the housing. The housing can include a second wall opposite the first wall, and the plate pairs can be spaced away from the second wall in order to accommodate differences in thermal expansion between the plate pairs and the housing.

Stacked/bar plate charge air cooler including inlet and outlet tanks

An exhaust gas recirculation cooler includes an inlet configured to receive exhaust gas from an engine, an outlet configured to direct the exhaust gas back toward the engine, and an exhaust gas flow conduit. The flow conduit includes a first end adjacent the inlet, a second end adjacent the outlet, a first narrow side, a second narrow side, substantially flat broad sides extending between the narrow sides, a first channel adjacent the first narrow side and extending between the ends, a second channel adjacent the second narrow side and extending between the ends, and a plurality of third channels located between the first and second channels and extending between the ends. A plate is located at one end of the flow conduit to inhibit the exhaust gas from flowing through at least one of the first channel and the second channel while allowing exhaust gas flow through the third channels.

Heat exchanger and method of manufacturing the same

The present invention provides a heat exchange system including, among other things, a radiator operable to remove heat from coolant, an air flow path extending through a first charge air cooler and a second charge air cooler, the first charge air cooler being operable to transfer heat from air to the coolant, the second charge air cooler being positioned downstream from the first charge air cooler along the air flow path to receive the air from the first charge air cooler and being operable to transfer heat from the air to the coolant, and a coolant circuit extending between a coolant pump, the radiator, and the first and second charge air coolers.

Heat exchanger system and method of operating the same

A liquid cooled charge air cooler includes a plurality of pairs of adjacent separator plates supported in parallel spaced relation. The pairs alternatingly define a first set of adjacent pairs in fluid communication with a charge air inlet and a charge air outlet, and a second set of adjacent pairs in fluid communication with a coolant inlet and a coolant outlet. Fins extend between adjacent plates of the first set of adjacent pairs to define a charge air flow path between the charge air inlet and the charge air outlet. A plurality of dams extend between adjacent plates of the second set of adjacent pairs in a select offset configuration to define a multi-pass coolant flow path between the coolant inlet and the coolant outlet. Each dam includes an associated bypass port allowing a portion of coolant to bypass at least a portion of the coolant flow path through the dams.
