Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a universal tracking module (UTM) capable of tracking six degrees of freedom of objects. In artificial reality environments, six degrees of freedom tracking refers to the ability to track an object moving and rotating freely in three-dimensional space along three axes of movement and rotation. Six degrees of freedom tracking provides high precision in tracking movement and rotation in 3D space, enabling more accurate and realistic representations of objects and interactions in virtual and augmented reality environments, thereby allowing for more realistic and immersive experiences. In examples, the UTM includes a plurality of light-emitting diodes such that an image of the UTM can be utilized to determine the position and orientation of the UTM and the object to which the UTM is attached.

The handheld device may comprise a housing defining an internal cavity and an orifice providing access to the internal cavity. A trigger may comprise an external and an internal surface. The trigger may be oriented to cover the orifice. A transfer member may be oriented in the internal cavity and coupled to the internal surface of the trigger. A force sensor may be oriented in the internal cavity and may engage a distal end of the transfer member and the internal surface of the trigger. A transfer roller may be oriented in the internal cavity and coupled to the distal end of the transfer member. A cam may be oriented in the internal cavity and may engage the transfer member. A motor may be oriented in the internal cavity and coupled to the cam.

Wireless signals are received from a remote camera via the antenna. Handheld controllers are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the controller includes a main body and a sensor assembly at least partially disposed in the main body. The sensor assembly can include a control surface (e.g., a button) configured to receive at least a portion of a user's finger. A sensor portion can be disposed between the control surface and a rear member. The sensor portion can comprise a foam layer, a backing layer and a sensor layer between the foam layer and the backing layer. The foam layer can be compressed toward the control surface to minimize an air gap between the sensor layer and the control surface.

A degree of closing of the image of the hand is displayed on the HMD in proportion to the pressure applied to the grip.

A system maps a user's interaction with a game controller to predefined hand positions that can be used in gaming and multimedia applications. A game controller with sensors receives user input with capacitive sensors and generates sensor outputs. A controller modeling module receives the sensor outputs and trains a model based on the outputs. The trained kinematic model maps the sensor outputs to one or more of a plurality of predefined hand positions. When an application requests the status of a user's hand position, e.g., through an API, the mapped hand position is sent to the application.
