A conveyance model for predicting an output in response to an input, wherein: the input comprises one or more of a wireline input, a toolstring input, a well input, and/or a conveyance input; and the output comprises one or more of a surface weight versus depth output, a cable head tension versus depth output, and a jarring effect output.

Conveyance modeling

A downhole tool and method for reducing friction between a tool string and a sidewall of a wellbore. The downhole tool includes a first wheel, a second wheel, and a hump. When the downhole tool is connected to the tool string, the first wheel, the second wheel, and the hump each extend away from the tool string and collectively define a curved outer profile extending circumferentially around at least a portion of a circumference of the tool string, and the curved outer profile has a geometric center that is offset from a central axis of the tool string.

Tool string orientation

An apparatus and method for performing automated pump-down operations. An apparatus may include a control system configured to be communicatively connected with a fluid pump disposed at a wellsite surface and with a conveyance device disposed at the wellsite surface. The control system may be operable to cause the conveyance device to unwind a conveyance line connected with a tool string disposed within a wellbore, and cause the fluid pump to pump a fluid into the wellbore such that the fluid moves the tool string along the wellbore while the conveyance device unwinds the conveyance line.

Automated pump-down

A downhole release apparatus having a first connector sub connectable with a first portion of a tool string and a second connector sub connectable with a second portion of the tool string. The first connector sub may include a housing, a first latching member, and a blocking member. The second connector sub may include a second latching member. The first and second latching members may engage thereby connecting the first and second connector subs. The blocking member may be movable from a first position in which the blocking member prevents the first and second latching members from disengaging to a second position in which the blocking member permits the first and second latching members to disengage thereby permitting the first and second connector subs to disconnect. Relative movement between the housing and first latching member may facilitate movement of the blocking member from the first position to the second position.

Downhole release apparatus

Apparatus and methods for running casing into a wellbore. An apparatus may be or include a casing collar configured to couple together a first casing joint and a second casing joint. The casing collar may have a body and a plurality of rotatable members connected to the body. The body may have a fluid passage extending axially therethrough, a first coupler configured to couple the casing collar with the first casing joint, and a second coupler configured to couple the casing collar with the second casing joint. At least a portion of each rotatable member may extend from the body in a radially outward direction.

Apparatus and method for running casing into a wellbore

A downhole tool and method for orienting a tool string within a passage, wherein the passage is a wellbore or a tubular member disposed in a wellbore. The downhole tool may include a frame () operable for connection with the tool string (), a first orienting feature () connected to a first side of the frame (), and a second orienting feature () connected to a second side of the frame (). The first orienting feature () may be rotatable relative to the frame about a first axis of rotation that is offset from a central axis of the tool string and the second orienting feature () may be rotatable relative to the frame about a second axis of rotation that is offset from the central axis of the tool string.

An apparatus and method for connecting and selectively disconnecting within a wellbore first and second portions of a downhole tool string from each other. The apparatus may be a downhole tool having a first connector sub connectable with the first portion of the downhole tool string, a second connector sub connectable with the second portion of the downhole tool string, an internal chamber, and a fastener connecting the first and second connector subs. At least a portion of the fastener fluidly separates the internal chamber into a first chamber portion and a second chamber portion. The first chamber portion is fluidly connected with the space external to the downhole tool. The downhole tool is selectively operable to disconnect the first and second connector subs from each other to disconnect the first and second portions of the downhole tool string from each other.

Downhole apparatus for disconnecting portions of downhole tool string

An impact tool for coupling between opposing first and second portions of a downhole tool. The impact tool may include a housing having opposing first and second ends, a first shaft extending from within the housing at the first end of the housing, a second shaft extending from within the housing at the second end of the housing, an energy storing member disposed within the housing, and a latching mechanism operable to selectively permit relative motion between the housing and the second shaft to release energy stored in the energy storing member to impart an impact to the downhole tool string.

Downhole impact apparatus

A downhole-adjusting impact apparatus (DAIA) mechanically coupled between opposing first and second portions of a tool string, wherein: the tool string is conveyable within a wellbore extending between a wellsite surface and a subterranean formation; the first tool string portion comprises a first electrical conductor in electrical communication with surface equipment disposed at the wellsite surface; the DAIA comprises a second electrical conductor in electrical communication with the first electrical conductor; and the DAIA is operable to: detect an electrical characteristic of the second electrical conductor; impart a first impact force on the second tool string portion when the electrical characteristic is detected; and impart a second impact force on the second tool string portion when the electrical characteristic is not detected, wherein the second impact force is substantially greater than the first impact force.

Downhole-Adjusting impact apparatus and methods

An impact apparatus conveyable in a tool string within a wellbore comprises a mandrel, a first impact feature, and a latch pin retainer encircling an end of the mandrel. A release sleeve encircles a portion of the latch pin retainer and includes a radial recess. Latch pins retained by the latch pin retainer are slidable into and out of the radial recess, and prevent disengagement of the mandrel end from the latch pin retainer when not extending into the radial recess. A release member electromagnetically causes relative translation of the latch pin retainer and the release sleeve, including aligning the latch pins with the radial recess and thereby permitting the disengagement. A second impact feature is positioned to impact the first impact feature in response to the disengagement when the impact apparatus is under tension.

Electromagnetically activated jarring

An apparatus comprising a housing to be coupled to an end of a downhole tool, a member rotatably coupled to the housing, and first and second arms extending from the member. A first wheel is rotatably coupled between the first and second arms, a second wheel is rotatably coupled with the first arm opposite the first wheel, and a third wheel is rotatably coupled with the second arm opposite the first wheel. The first, second, and third wheels independently rotate relative to the first and second arms, and collectively rotate with the member relative to the housing.

Downhole roller

A downhole tool having opposing interfaces for incorporation of the downhole tool into a downhole tool string. A housing extends between the opposing interfaces, and a bore extends longitudinally through the housing between the opposing interfaces. An accelerometer is disposed within the bore of the housing for detecting acceleration of the downhole tool in response to a mechanical impact generated elsewhere within the downhole tool string. The accelerometer generates an output signal indicative of the acceleration. The downhole tool also includes a processor for processing the output signal, a memory device for storing the output signal or data generated by the processor, and an electrical energy source powering the processor and the memory device.

Impact sensing during jarring operations

A downhole tool having opposing interfaces for incorporation of the downhole tool into a downhole tool string, and a housing extending between the opposing interfaces. An accelerometer is disposed within the housing for detecting acceleration of the downhole tool in response to a mechanical impact generated elsewhere within the downhole tool string. The accelerometer generates an accelerometer signal indicative of the detected acceleration. A strain sensor is disposed within the housing for detecting strain of the downhole tool. The strain sensor generates a strain signal indicative of the detected strain. The downhole tool includes a processor for processing the accelerometer signal utilizing the strain signal.

Apparatus comprising a gripper operable to grip a cable extending between the Earth's surface and a downhole tool, wherein the downhole tool is suspended in a wellbore that extends from the Earth's surface to one or more subterranean formations. A body is assembled to the gripper. A plurality of rolling elements are each rotatably coupled to the body and operable to rotate relative to the body in response to contact with a sidewall of the wellbore as the body is translated along the wellbore. The body and the plurality of rolling elements collectively rotate relative to the gripper and, thus, the cable.

Wireline roller standoff

A bulkhead connector assembly for assembly within a downhole tool to isolate a dry side of the downhole tool from a fluid side of the downhole tool and to allow electrical communication therebetween. The bulkhead connector assembly comprises a bulkhead comprising holes extending therethrough, wherein the bulkhead is adapted to form a fluid seal against an inside surface of the downhole tool. Terminals extend through the bulkhead, wherein an end of each terminal is in electrical communication with one of a plurality of electrical wires. Boots each extend about the end of a corresponding one of the terminals. A retaining block has holes each receiving one of the boots. A housing positioned around the retaining block is coupled to the bulkhead, thus positionally fixing the retaining block relative to the bulkhead.
