A power management system () includes a group of individually powered electronic devices (-) connected with a power management controller (). The power management controller () operates to determine the operation and charge of each power source of the electronic devices (-) for managing the power source life of at least one of the devices through the use of pre-selected power management algorithms. These include a preprogrammed and predictive algorithm () based on anticipated or actual device activity, a priority algorithm () based on device priority or a maximize work shift algorithm () based on the time period of the user's work shift.

A location determination system () utilizes a low accuracy timing infrastructure () to synchronize a personal tracking device () having high accuracy timing location determination devices integrated therein. The PTD () includes a radio frequency (RF) location unit () and integrated sensors, such as altimeter (), GPS receiver () and inertial navigation unit (IMU) (). The RF location unit () receives a synchronization command from the low accuracy timing infrastructure () and provides timing data representing range information in response thereto. The range information is used by the high accuracy timing infrastructure () to compute updated X, Y, Z coordinates of the PTD ().

Location determination system and method therefor

A communication device provides for a hardware configurable module interface port by using a programmable logic device ( ). The programmable logic device ( ) is reconfigured using software stored in memory ( ). The reconfiguration of programmable logic device ( ) depends on the type of module ( ) that is attached to the communication device. Since data translation is not required to be performed by each of the different types of modules that can be attached to the communication device, the time to develop a module is shortened and support circuitry requirements to perform data translation is reduced.
