A fluid pressure cylinder assembly has a sensor to provide a signal indicating the amount of extension of a piston rod from the cylinder. The sensor includes a sleeve that is fixed relative to a base of the cylinder and passes into a longitudinal bore in the piston rod, and the piston rod carries a sensor core that is in the bore and is secured to the piston rod at an end opposite from a piston on the rod. The core slides on the interior of the sensor sleeve. A connection is provided to the sensor sleeve such that as the core moves relative to the sensor sleeve a signal indicating the amount of movement and the relative position of the cylinder base and the piston rod is provided.

A tool carrier, such as a compact loader, has a main frame formed as a transmission housing that is all welded construction. The transmission housing has drives from motors and drive shafts on each side of the transmission housing. The drives are in enclosed chain cases forming integral parts of the transmission housing. The drive shafts span the power drive cases and are supported on bearings on both ends. The drives in each of the power drive cases drive front and rear axles of the compact loader. Axle tubes also are welded in place on the transmission housing. The rear portions of the transmission housing have support arm castings supported in and closing the ends of the power drive cases. The support arm castings provide support for mounting lift arms for the compact loader.

The application discloses an automated control module, which is configured to receive an input signal from a sensor and generate a universal control signal that can be processed by different machine controllers having different control configurations. In one embodiment the universal control signal is transmitted to a machine controller on the power machine through a connection assembly including a connector plug and socket. In another embodiment, the universal control signal is transmitted through a wireless interface. The machine controller processes the universal control signal and outputs a device control signal to operate different devices 'on board' the power machine.

An angle sensor is used for determining the relative position of a steerable wheel hub, relative to a fixed wheel mounting hub. The angle sensor has a portion mounted on the fixed hub, but received in a recess in the kingpin. The kingpin has a central bore that receives a movable shaft of the sensor which is driven by the kingpin. As the steerable wheel hub is steered, it rotates about the axis of the kingpin and rotates the kingpin. The kingpin drives the shaft of the sensor to provide for an indication of the amount of pivotal movement between the wheel hub and the wheel mounting hub.

A sensor for sensing the rotation of an output shaft of a motor used for driving a vehicle includes a disc on the output shaft that carries magnets facing toward a motor carrier and the motor. The motor carrier has an annular recess open on a side facing away from the motor, and a Hall effect sensor is placed in this recess and held with a T-shaped bracket having a tang that supports the Hall effect sensor partially in this annular recess for protecting it and positioning it adjacent the magnets on the disc.
