An elastomeric composition is disclosed. The elastomeric composition includes, per 100 parts by weight of rubber (phr): about 5 to about 40 phr of styrene/butadiene copolymer; about 60 to about 100 phr of natural rubber or polyisoprene; a curative agent; an antioxidant; about 1 to about 20 phr carbon black; about 5 to about 40 phr plasticizing agent; about 40 to about 80 phr silica; about 1 to about 20 phr silane coupling agent and about 5 to about 30 phr of a polymer selected from the group consisting of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer. The polymer based on ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer may be functionalized.

Functionalized polymers tread additive to improve tire performance for immiscible all-season tread

An elastomeric composition is disclosed. The elastomeric composition includes, per 100 parts by weight of rubber (phr): about 30 to about 70 phr of polybutadiene having a cis-1,4 linkage content of at least 95%; about 30 to 70 phr of natural rubber or polyisoprene; about 20 to 50 phr of a processing oil; a curative agent; an antioxidant; about 50 to about 80 phr filler; a silane coupling agent; and about 5 to about 30 phr of a polymer selected from the group consisting of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer. The polymer based on ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer may be functionalized.

Functionalized polymers tread additive to improve all-season tire performance

An elastomeric composition suitable for use in belts like transmission belts may comprise: from 5 to 100 phr of a propylene-α-olefin-diene (PEDM) terpolymer comprising 80 wt % to 97.5 wt % propylene, 2.5 wt % to 20 wt % a-olefin, and 0.5 wt % to 10 wt % diene, said wt % based on the weight of the PEDM terpolymer, and wherein the PEDM terpolymer has (a) Mooney viscosity (ML(1+4)) of 1 MU to 60 MU, (b) melt flow rate of 0.5 g/min to 100 g/min, and (c) a weight average molecular weight to n-average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) ratio of 1.5 to 3.0; and from 60 to 95 phr of an ethylene-based copolymer comprising 0 wt % to 95 wt % ethylene, 0 wt % to 10 wt % of one or more dienes, and 5 wt % to 60 wt % C3 to C12 α-olefin, said wt % based on the total weight of the ethylene-based copolymer.

Ethylene-based copolymer and propylene-alpha-olefin-diene compositions for use in layered articles

Elastomeric compositions comprising propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer based polyolefin additives useful in tire tread compositions. The elastomeric compositions comprise 100 phr (parts by weight per hundred parts of total elastomer) diene elastomers; about 0 to about 80 phr of processing oil; 0 to about 80 phr of a hydrocarbon resin; about 60 to about 140 phr of filler; a curative agent; and about 5 to about 30 phr of a silane functionalized propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer. The silane functionalized propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer comprises from about 2 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of ethylene and/or C-Cα-olefins derived units, from 0.5 to 10 wt % of diene derived units, and a silane coupling agent. The present elastomeric compositions are useful as tire tread compositions for improved tire performance.

Propylene ethylene diene terpolymer polyolefin additives for improved tire tread performance

Provided herein are isobutylene-based polymer compositions comprising functionalized isobutylene-based polymer with olefinic side chain substituents, and a sulfur donor and/or accelerator cure system. The functionalized polymer is produced via nucleophilic substitution reaction in solution. The present functionalized isobutylene-based polymer compositions together with various accelerators and sulfur donors can form thermosets useful for pharmaceutical and tire applications without the use of zinc or a zinc oxide activator.

Isobutylene-based polymers with olefinic side chain substituents and curable compositions containing the same

Provided herein are thioacetate isobutylene-based polymer compositions comprising thioalkylated functionalized polymer, and a sulfur donor and/or accelerator cure system. The thioalkylated functionalized polymer is produced via nucleophilic substitution reaction in solution. The present thioacetate functionalized isobutylene-based polymer compositions together with various accelerators and sulfur donors can form thermosets useful for pharmaceutical and tire applications without the use of zinc or a zinc oxide activator.

Polyolefin elastomers are widely employed commodity polymers. There remains a desire to expand the structural diversity of polyolefin elastomers to facilitate their use in additional applications. Polyolefin elastomers may be graft copolymers that comprise: a first polymer chain comprising at least a first olefinic monomer comprising isobutylene and a second olefinic monomer bearing a benzylic carbon atom or an allylic carbon atom, and a second polymer chain bonded to the benzylic carbon atom or the allylic carbon atom of the first polymer chain. The second polymer chain comprises at least one monomer that is not present in the first polymer chain. The second polymer chain may be bonded to the first polymer chain by generating a carbanion upon the benzylic carbon atom or the allylic carbon atom and growing the second polymer chain by anionic polymerization.

Anionic graft polymerization onto an existing polymer chain by organometallic base activation

Although polyolefin elastomers are widely employed commodity polymers, there are shortcomings of this class of polymers for certain applications. For example, the rheological properties of some polyolefin elastomers may be insufficient to provide the green strength or low shear viscosity necessary to form stable foams, or to provide sufficient viscosity modification effects when present in a solvent. Cationomeric modification of polyolefin elastomers may alleviate these difficulties. Such polyolefin elastomers may feature a random cationomeric polyolefin copolymer comprising at least a first monomer and a second monomer, in which the first monomer is a neutral monomer and the second monomer has a side chain bearing a cationic moiety. The polyolefin elastomers may be present in foamed polyolefin compositions comprising a gas component and/or in liquid compositions comprising a solvent in which the polyolefin elastomer is dissolved.

Cationomeric polyolefin compositions and methods for production and use thereof

This invention relates to a silane-functionalized resin composition having a polymer backbone, wherein the polymer backbone is selected from at least one of Chomopolymers and copolymer resins, terpene homopolymer or copolymer resins, pinene homopolymer or copolymer resins, Chomopolymers and copolymer resins, C/Ccopolymer resins, alpha-methylstyrene homopolymer or copolymer resins, and combinations thereof, and wherein the polymer backbone is substantially free of styrene copolymer; and a silane, where the ratio of the mole percent of the silane to the mole percent of the polymer backbone in the composition is in the amount of 0.04 to 3.0 as determined by H-NMR.

Comb-block copolymers of isobutylene copolymer backbone with functional comb arms, methods for making a comb-block copolymer comprising polymerizing one or more monomer components comprising units derived from at least one of acrylates, vinyl terminated Cto Caromatics, acrylamides, and acrylonitrile using a halogenated copolymer initiator having a benzylic-halide moiety via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in the presence of a transition metal complex catalyst at a temperature ranging from 30&#xb0; C. to 150&#xb0; C., the use of these comb-block copolymers as a tire tread additive, as a nanofiller dispersant in elastomeric nanocomposite compositions comprising halobutyl rubber, as a surfactant, as a sealant, and as an additive in a latex formulation is disclosed.
