A torque converter is provided. The torque converter includes a stator including a body and a plurality of blades on an outer circumferential surface of the body and an impeller including an impeller shell. The impeller shell includes at least one protrusion aligned for contacting an axially extending surface of the body of the stator to center the stator on the impeller during assembly. A method of forming a torque converter is also provided. The method includes forming an impeller shell to include at least one protrusion on a stator facing surface thereof; providing a stator including a body and a plurality of blades on an outer circumferential surface of the body; and centering the stator on the impeller shell by contacting the at least one protrusion with an axially extending surface of the body.

A torque converter is provided. The torque converter includes a cover. The cover includes a radially extending section and an axially extending section extending axially from an outer radial end of the radially extending section. The torque converter also includes at least one baffle assembly attached to the radially extending section or the axially extending section of the cover. The at least one baffle assembly includes a plurality of baffles protruding from the cover to impact fluid flow in the torque converter. Methods of forming a torque converter are also provided.

A friction material for a motor vehicle drive train component is provided. The friction material includes an outer circumference, an inner circumference, an engagement surface configured for engaging with and disengaging from a mating component and a coined section extending between at least one of the outer circumference and the engagement surface and the inner circumference and the engagement surface. A method of forming a friction material for a motor vehicle drive train component is also provided. The method includes attaching a first axial surface of the friction material to a support and coining at least one of an inner circumference and an outer circumference at a second axial surface of a friction material to form a coined section. The second axial surface is on an opposite side as the first axial surface.

A torque converter, including an axis of rotation, a cover arranged to receive torque, an impeller including an impeller shell non-rotatably connected to the cover and, at least one impeller blade fixedly connected to the impeller shell, a turbine including a turbine shell and at least one turbine blade fixedly connected to the turbine shell, a stator axially disposed between the impeller and turbine shells and including at least one stator blade and a first core ring fixedly secured to the at least one impeller blade and, including at least one first flat annular surface facing the at least one turbine blade or a second core ring fixedly secured to the at least one turbine blade and, including at least one second flat annular surface facing the at least one impeller blade.
