The present disclosure relates to the treatment of formation rock or scale. The rock or scale may be located in a geothermal well. The rock or scale may be treated with a stimulation fluid. The stimulation fluid includes a salt of a nitrogen base having a fluoro inorganic anion and an acid component. The rock may include quartz. The acid component may include hydrochloric acid.

The disclosure relates to improved methods for inhibiting the formation and deposition of sulfide and silica scale in aqueous systems. In particular, the methods include injecting a composition into an aqueous system or wellbore. The composition includes a sulfide scale inhibitor and a silica scale inhibitor. The sulfide scale inhibitor may be a copolymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and an anionic monomer. The silica scale inhibitor may be a copolymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and an alkoxylated monomer.

Maleic anhydride homopolymer corrosion inhibitors, maleic acid homopolymer corrosion inhibitors, methods for preparing the same, and methods of inhibiting corrosion are provided. The corrosion inhibitors may exclude phosphorus and may contain a hydrolysate of a maleic anhydride homopolymer or a hydrolysate of a maleic acid homopolymer. Methods of mitigating or inhibiting corrosion of housing or conduits containing aqueous mediums are also disclosed. The methods can include the steps of pretreating the metal conduit with a mixture of one or more transition metals, one or more organic phosphates, one or more inorganic phosphates, and hydroxyphosphono acetic acid, introducing an aqueous medium into the metal conduit, and injecting a mixture of one or more transition metals, one or more organic phosphates, one or more inorganic phosphates, and hydroxyphosphono acetic acid and/or salts thereof into the aqueous medium.

Corrosion control compositions and methods of mitigating corrosion

Corrosion inhibitors and methods for reducing or inhibiting corrosion of metals in aqueous systems are provided. Corrosion inhibitor compositions may include tetracarboxylic acids, such as butane tetracarboxylic acid. The compositions may include other components, such as zinc, molybdate, silicate, cerium, among others. The compositions may also include polymers or oligomers. The corrosion inhibitor compositions produced synergistic results and unexpectedly low corrosion rates.

Further, the scale that forms is softer and more easily cleaned from surfaces, reducing non-operation time of the plant and/or evaporator. Methods of mitigating scale formation in phosphoric acid production and phosphoric acid handling plants are disclosed. In the methods, scales accumulate more slowly and are softer, more tractable, and more easily cleaned from surfaces to which they adhere.

A composition and method for dispersing sulfur, cleaning sulfur deposits, and minimizing foaming in an aqueous system is disclosed. The method may include adding a first sulfur dispersant to process water containing sulfur and dispersing the sulfur. The first sulfur dispersant may include a C-Calkyl polyglycoside. A second sulfur dispersant may also be added to the process water. The second sulfur dispersant may include a polymer of acrylic acid and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid.

Corrosion inhibitor blends including one or more ether compounds, one or more quaternary ammonium compounds, and one or more fatty acid amine condensates are disclosed. The corrosion inhibitor blends can be used in methods of inhibiting corrosion of a metallic surface in a geothermal process. In one method, an effective amount of a corrosion inhibitor blend may be added to a production well in a geothermal process. In another method, an effective amount of a corrosion inhibitor blend may be added to a geothermal medium, which could be, for example, steam or liquid brine.

Methods for dispersing foulants are disclosed herein. Various effective dispersant compositions are also disclosed. The dispersant composition can include a silt dispersant and a hydrocarbon dispersant. Generally, the silt dispersant can be a homopolymer or a copolymer of one or more monomers, and the monomers can be one or more of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, &#x3b1;-halo acrylic acid, maleic acid, itaconic acid, vinyl acetic acid, allyl acetic acid, fumaric acid, &#x3b2;-carboxylic acrylate, and their salts. The silt dispersant can also be a terpolymer of acrylic acid, acrylamide, and sulfonated acrylamide. The hydrocarbon dispersant can be a non-ionic surfactant or a nonylphenol or a nonylphenol ethoxylate, such as a high EO 9 Nonyl phenol resin. Also disclosed are methods for preventing or reducing fouling in equipment that contacts water used during a hydrocarbon production process.
