An optical system is capable of enhancing vision of low vision individuals using a simple adjustment mechanism that requires a minimum length of travel to effect a desired adjustment. First and second substantially perpendicular mirrors are mounted in a cluster for pivotable movement. An entrance mirror is pivoted in response to pivoting movement of the mirror cluster so as to ensure proper convergence when the object to be viewed is close to the objective lens or lenses in a binocular system. The system also includes an objective lens and an eyepiece lens and is readily mounted to a conventional eyeglasses frame.

Vision enhancing optical system

An optical system is capable of enhancing vision of low vision individuals using a simple adjustment mechanism that requires a minimum length of travel to effect a desired adjustment. First and second substantially perpendicular mirrors are mounted in a cluster for substantially linear movement. A third mirror is substantially parallel to the first mirror and pivotal about an axis substantially transverse to the direction of linear movement of the cluster. Pivotal movement of the third mirror may be automatic in response to linear movement of the mirror cluster so as to ensure substantially proper convergence when the object to be viewed is about one meter (or closer) from the objective lens or lenses in a binocular system. A fourth mirror is substantially parallel to the second mirror and substantially perpendicular to the third mirror. An objective lens cooperates with the first and third mirrors, and an eyepiece lens with the second and fourth mirrors. The system, whether monocular or binocular, may be mounted on eyeglasses.

Low vision enhancing optical system with movable mirrors

A small, light, wide field (e.g. about a 15 degree field of view), Keplerian bioptic telescope is provided which preferably is mounted in association with conventional eyeglasses. A casing includes first and second open ends, a middle section, and an optical system mounted within it. The optical system includes an eye lens adjacent the casing first end, an objective lens adjacent the casing second end, and a right angle prism and penta prism between the eye lens and objective lens, disposed side by side, typically with faces in face to face engagement. A field lens may be provided between the eye lens and the prisms. The position of the objective lens is adjustable by movement toward and away from the casing middle section. An opening may be formed in a first eyeglass lens and the casing press fit into the opening so that the first end of the casing is on a first side of the eyeglass lens and the middle section is on the second side of the eyeglass lens opposite the first side, extending about 1.25 inches or less from the lens.

Vision enhancing assembly

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for extending the range and accuracy of electronic and electro-optical systems for determining the distance from a reference object to another object. A multiplicity of range baselines is employed, and a computer, usually a microprocessor, is used to automatically switch between baselines to extend the total measurement range, to increase the precision of range measurement over a prespecified set of ranges, or both. The invention has applications in a wide variety of range measuring systems, including robotics, autofocus cameras, autofocus binoculars, and autofocus vision aids for people with impaired vision.

Method and apparatus for measuring range by use of multiple range

A field expanding system for producing an expanded field image including a translating slit for a first rotating mirror, and a second mirror which undergoes translation and rotation. The second mirror translates in synchronism with the slit and rotates in synchronism with the first mirror.

Visual field expanding system

A sight-facilitating apparatus is provided capable of providing magnifications of about 4X to 8X in an aesthetically pleasing manner. An elongated casing has a light entry at one portion thereof and a light exit at an opposite portion thereof. A prismatic telescopic lens system including an objective, an ocular, and the like is mounted within the casing so that light entering the casing throught the light entry passes through the lens system and exits the light exit, with provision for adjusting the focus of the lens system. The objective is mounted within the casing so that the majority of the focal length thereof extends parallel to the direction of elongation of the casing, the light from the first optical element of the lens system being directed along the direction of elongation of the casing. The casing is preferably mounted on top of or incorporated into an eyeglass frame, between the ear pieces, so that the direction of elongation of the casing extends substantially horizontally between the wearer's eyes, with the light exit adjacent a wearer's eye. The wearer may look through the eyeglass lenses and then by tilting his/her eyes with respect to his/her head an angle of about 10.degree., look through the light exit.
