A phasor-based signal detector includes a signal processor to detect symbols in a received signal in the presence of an offset between the carrier frequency and an oscillator frequency of the signal processor. The signal processor calculates a phasor that indicates a phase difference between a first sample in a first symbol group and a second sample in a second symbol group. The first and second samples each include a real part and an imaginary part corresponding to a same sample position within the first and second symbol groups. Calculating the phasor includes a complex multiplication of one of the samples and a conjugate of the other one of the samples. A phase difference indicated by a phasor meeting a criteria may be used to estimate a carrier frequency offset (CFO). If the CFO is within a supported range, the signal processor may coherently accumulate symbols.

Phasor-based signal detector

Embodiments of a device for wireless communication are disclosed. In some embodiments, the device includes: a transceiver configured to receive a message from a second device and at least one processor. The processor is communicatively coupled to the transceiver and is configured to: generate a response message includes a SYNC portion, a start frame delimiter (SFD) portion, and a cipher portion. The SYNC portion includes a sequence of symbols forming a preamble. The cipher portion includes a ciphered sequence of pseudo-randomized pulses. The transceiver is further configured to transmit the response message.

Ranging with simultaneous frames

In an ultra-wideband ('UWB') communication system, methods are disclosed for transmitting packets in multiple portions, each having a different pulse repetition frequency (“PRF”). Methods are also disclosed for transmitting packets discontinuously.

A method for use in a wireless communication system comprising a transmitter and a receiver, the method comprising receiving, in the receiver, data comprising a plurality of channel-distorted synchronization codes and plurality of channel-distorted cipher codes, generating a receiver cipher sequence, the receiver cipher sequence comprising a plurality of receiver cipher codes, analyzing the received data to identify correlations between the plurality of channel-distorted cipher codes in the received data and the plurality of receiver cipher codes, accumulating the identified correlations as accumulator data in an accumulator, identifying one or more peaks in the accumulator data, identifying a first correlation peak in the accumulator data that meets one or more criteria and using the first correlation peak to identify the first path of a data packet from the transmitter.

Secure ultra wide band ranging

Systems and methods for reduced interpath interference for ultrawideband (UWB) wireless communication are disclosed. In one aspect, a wireless communication device employs a systematic and non-random pulse-hopping scheme to introduce variable distances between pulses to reduce collision rates from interpath interference. In exemplary aspects, the scheme optimizes avoidance of collision rates for distances between paths of up to thirty nanoseconds (30 ns). The use of an optimized grid will be stable regardless of position of the user, thereby avoiding transmission drops and improving the user experience.

Reduced interpath interference for ultrawideband (UWB) wireless communication

An ultra-wideband (UWB) communication system comprising a transmitter having two antennas and a receiver having a single receive antenna. Respective selected portions of the UWB signal are transmitted by the transmitter via each of the two transmit antennas and are received at the receive antenna. By comparing the phases of the received signal portions, the phase difference of departure can be determined. From this phase difference the known distance, d, between the transmit antennas the Cartesian (x, y) location of the transmitter relative to the receiver can be directly determined.

Method and apparatus for determining the angle of departure

A method of transmitting signals from a first node having multiple transceivers to a second node is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a message from the second node at the first node, wherein the message is received by each of a plurality of transceivers of the first node; and transmitting by each of the plurality of transceivers a respective data frame to the second node in response to the message; wherein each transceiver initiates the transmission of its respective data frame a predetermined time period after receipt of the message by the transceiver; and wherein the transmissions of the data frames from the plurality of transceivers overlap. The data frames may form part of a two-way ranging exchange.

In an ultra-wideband ('UWB') communication system comprising a pair of UWB transceivers, methods for securely performing channel sounding. In a first GCP Sync method, a pre-determined set of Golay Complementary Pairs is added to an 802.15.4a frame. In a second CLASS method, a cyphered low auto-correlation sum set is added to frame. In a third LCSSS method, a low cross-correlation sidelobe sum set is added to the frame. In general, these methods are adapted to transmit a pseudo-randomly generated codeset which may have inherent sidelobe distortions, and then, in the receiver, to compensate for this, and any channel-induced, distortion by selectively modifing the cross-correlation codeset.

Secure channel sounding

The present invention relates to a device and method of decoding code blocks of a transport block of a communication signal using a decoder. The method comprises making an assumption about how many decoder iterations should be used for different code blocks of the code blocks of the transport block, wherein the assumption is made based on a study of code block soft-bits. The method also comprises decoding the transport block using different numbers of decoder iterations for the different code blocks, based on the made assumption about how many decoder iterations should be used for the different code blocks.
