Electric machines, as well as systems implementing the same and methods of controlling the same, are disclosed. The electric machine includes a stator with a plurality of slots and a plurality of segmented inverter components coupled with the plurality of slots of the stator. Each segmented inverter component has an inverter and a set of windings extending from the inverter. The windings are inserted into a portion of the slots, and each of the segmented inverter components is separately and independently operable.

Electrical machines with segmented inverter components

Embodiments include a method for operating a hybrid machine system including an electric machine coupled to an engine and an inverter in an offset determination mode, and in an operating mode when the electric machine is in a loaded electrical state. Operating the machine system in the offset determination mode may include (1) receiving mechanical angular position information representative of mechanical angular positions of the electric machine, (2) receiving electrical angular position information representative of electrical angular positions of electric signals in the electric machine when the electric machine is operating in an unloaded electrical state, (3) determining an offset between the mechanical angular positions and the electrical angular positions, and (4) storing the offset. Operating the machine system in an operating mode may include (1) receiving the mechanical angular position information, (2) generating machine control signals based on the mechanical angular position information and the stored offset, and (3) applying the machine control signals to the inverter.

Position sensing and control in a hybrid system

A mild-hybrid energy storage system architecture is provided, comprising: a battery; an ultracapacitor connected in parallel with the battery; a passive battery pre-charge circuit connected between a terminal of the battery and a DC bus; a battery main contactor connected in parallel with the battery pre-charge circuit between the terminal of the battery and the DC bus; a passive ultracapacitor pre-charge circuit connected between a terminal of the ultracapacitor and the DC bus; an ultracapacitor main contactor connected in parallel with the ultracapacitor pre-charge circuit between the terminal of the ultracapacitor and the DC bus; and a control module configured to independently control operation of the battery pre-charge circuit, the battery main contactor, the ultracapacitor pre-charge circuit and the ultracapacitor main contactor.

Battery-ultracapacitor hybrid energy storage system architecture for mild-hybrid power systems

A resolver excitation output stage amplifier. Disclosed embodiments comprise an amplifier stage and a current protection circuit. The amplifier stage includes one or more amplifier transistors coupled to first and second supply terminals, a timing control terminal and an excitation signal output terminal. The amplifier stage is configured to provide a resolver excitation signal having the excitation frequency at the excitation signal output terminal. The current protection circuit includes one or more protection transistors coupled to the amplifier stage and configured to turn off the one or more transistors of the amplifier stage when current through the one or more transistors of the amplifier stage is greater than a predetermined current value.

Interface circuits for coupling hall sensors and resolvers to controllers in AC motor systems

The present disclosure provides a method of selectively charging or discharging a system with multiple battery packs connected in parallel when at least one of the battery packs has a significantly different voltage or states of charge (SOCs) than the other battery packs. The method includes charging or discharging the battery pack(s) with a voltage or state of charge (SOC) farthest from a target value until the voltage(s) or SOC(s) is within a range of another battery pack at which point the battery packs may be connected and charging or discharging can resume for the set of connected packs. This process is repeated until all the battery packs are at a predetermined minimum or maximum voltage or SOC threshold. The present disclosure also provides a method for selectively operating and charging at least one of a plurality of battery packs depending on the respective states of the battery packs.

Battery charging and discharging of multiple packs at different states of charge (SOCs)

A system for a non-hybrid vehicle is provided. The system includes an electromagnetic device structured to couple to an engine and generate AC electrical power from the engine. The system also includes an AC-to-DC inverter structured to receive and change the AC electrical power to regulated DC electrical power. Additionally, the system includes an electrical path coupled to the AC-to-DC inverter and configured to provide the regulated DC electrical power directly to an electrically-powered accessory at or above 28 volts DC.

Modular electromagnetic interference filter inductor core

A system for a non-hybrid/non-electric vehicle includes a high voltage electromagnetic device and a power electronics system. The high voltage electromagnetic device is structured to couple to an engine and generate AC electrical power from the engine. The power electronics system is electrically coupled to the high voltage electromagnetic device. The power electronics system includes an AC-to-DC inverter and a junction box. The AC-to-DC inverter is structured to receive and change the AC electrical power to regulated DC electrical power. The junction box is structured to receive and provide the regulated DC electrical power to a plurality of electrical paths that electrically couple the junction box to a plurality of electrically-powered accessories. The regulated DC electrical power is provided to each of the plurality of electrically-powered accessories based on an electric power consumption need of each respective electrically-powered accessory.

Hybrid power systems include an internal combustion engine and a motor/generator connectable with the engine. A reefer unit is configured to receive power from the motor/generator via a reefer power system that includes an export power inverter and an energy storage device.

Hybrid reefer systems

Mild hybrid powertrain controls and apparatuses, methods and systems including the same are disclosed. One exemplary embodiment is a mild-hybrid system comprising an engine, an electrical machine, power electronics, an energy storage system, and an electrical load. The system includes a controller structured to receive an electrical machine power command based upon a power allocation to the electrical machine, process the electrical machine power command with feedforward controls structured to compensate for an inaccuracy associated with the power electronics, process the electrical machine power command with proportional integral (PI) controls structured to compensate for a power loss associated with one or more electrical loads, provide a compensated machine power command based upon the processing with the feedforward controls and the processing with the PI controls, and output the compensated machine power command to control the electrical machine.

Mild hybrid powertrain controls

A reconfigurable converter includes a power circuit receives a direct current (DC) power signal and provides an alternating current (AC) output signal across at least three phases. The power circuit comprises a plurality of legs, each leg comprising an output node. A coupling device provides a first output configuration and a second output configuration for the plurality of legs. In the first output configuration, the coupling device comprises a coupling portion coupling at least two output nodes to provide a common output terminal. In the second output configuration, the coupling device comprises separate output terminals, each connected to one of the at least two output nodes.

Reconfigurable converter

Systems and methods are disclosed for controlling a torque output of a motor/generator via one or more torque commands generated by a controller. The target output being determined by a target torque based upon a low voltage side target of a DC/DC converter including a battery operatively coupled to one or more low voltage loads, a high voltage side target of the DC/DC converter including a supercapacitor operatively coupled with an inverter that is operatively coupled to the motor/generator, and a ripple compensation torque.
