The present invention provides a two part ink or coating system, wherein Part A comprises one or more hydroxyl functional resins, one or more aminoplast crosslinkers, one or more polyester polyols, and one or more solvents; and Part B comprises an acid catalyst. Part A and Part B are combined just prior to application on a substrate. The ink or coating system of the invention is resistant to removal from polyolefin film substrates when subjected to a hot caustic wash. When applied as an overcoat (backing coat) over conventional inks printed on polyolefin film substrates, the ink or coating system of the invention also prevents removal of the conventional inks from the polyolefin substrate when subjected to a hot caustic wash. Advantageously, use of the ink and coating systems of the present invention reduces ink staining and contamination of recycled PET flakes.

Inks for recyclable plastics

The present invention provides a high opacity solvent based white ink or coating composition that provides high levels of opacity to substrates used for packaging materials that are printed via flexography or gravure. The ink or coating composition contains up to 75 wt % titanium dioxide, while still having a viscosity suitable for flexographic and gravure printing methods.

The present invention provides a method for printing high opacity images or coatings using solvent based inks comprising hollow polymeric microspheres, wherein the inks do not contain titanium dioxide. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified titanium dioxide as 'possibly carcinogenic to humans,' The method of the present invention allows one to avoid the use of inks that rely on titanium oxide for high opacity, which has become of importance for articles that come into contact with one's mouth, for example, cigarette tipping papers.

Described herein are printing ink compositions suitable for printing of microwavable flexible packaging. The printed black ink exhibits low microwave energy absorption, thus minimizing the risk of charring, arcing, ignition, distortion or burning during microwave heating processes. Nitrocellulose resin, a solvent, a polyurethane resin, and a carbon black pigment having at least one of an imaginary permittivity of &#x2264;3, preferably &#x2264;2, and a surface oxygen content of 1 wt % to 3 wt %, preferably 1.5 wt % to 2.5 wt % are among the components of the printing ink compositions. Also described is packaging suitable for exposure to microwave energy upon which the inks have been printed.
