Sprinkler self-diagnosis

An exemplary fire suppression sprinkler includes a housing () that establishes a flow path for discharging fire suppression fluid. A water seat () is configured to block the flow path. A polymer seal () is supported within the housing () and engages the water seat () for sealing an interface between the flow path and the water seat (). A spring member () biases the polymer seal () into engagement with the water seat ().

The invention relates to a seal intended for sealing an axis pair, whereby the axes rotate in the same direction, the inner one of the axes is inside the outer axis and the phase difference of the axes is arranged to remain within predefined limits. The seal () is a tubular seal made of an elastic material and comprises at least two tube sections () fixed to each other. Folds () of the at least two tube sections () have opposing twisting angles. One end of the seal () is fastened to the outer axis and the other end is fastened to the inner axis, and the seal () is arranged to twist by a torque proportional to the phase difference between the axes.

The present invention relates to a diaphragm actuator for control valves, wherein the gear rack is arranged so that the points of contact of the gear rack/gear wheel system are situated on the straight line connecting the centers of the movable walls of the pressure spaces effecting the movement. Thereby, no torsion forces act on the diaphragm backing plates or on the diaphragms, but the forces effecting the movement of the reciprocating elements are substantially parallel with the path of motion and symmetrical. Additionally, the clearance between the gear rack and the gear wheel is substantially eliminated by means of a support roll with bearings. According to the invention, a lightly movable actuator is provided, in which the delays caused by clearances or wall friction of the cylinder-piston arrangement are substantially eliminated. The actuator can be implemented either as double-acting or single-acting.
