A novel new method for rapidly and efficiently depositing carbon on and within or densifying carbon fiber preforms, porous substrates and close packed particulates by pyrolitic carbon in the structures of isotropic, anisotropic, graphitic, amorphous, lonsdaleite, and diamond.

Method for rapid and efficient chemical vapor infiltration and densification of carbon fiber preforms, porous substrates and close packed particulates

Liquid anti-oxidants made by mixing specific chemical compositions disclosed herein, followed by thorough stirring so that a homogeneous blend of colloidal-like solutions are obtained. Such liquid anti-oxidants are applied to the surface of the carbon-carbon composite that is needed to be protected against oxidation by brushing, dipping, spraying, or other painting techniques, and allowed sufficient time for the anti-oxidants to penetrate into the subsurface region of the composite and to let dry in a dry atmosphere. The coated carbon/carbon composites can be heat treated (or charred) at a temperature of about approximately 650 to 950&#xb0; C. for a time period of about approximately one to seven hours. The above painting/heat treating processes can be repeated one to three or more times in order to obtain sufficient anti-oxidant char on or below the surface to a certain depth of the composite.

Glass ceramics based antioxidants for the oxidation protection of carbon-carbon composites

A medical device configured to be inserted into a patient's body to retrieve material from the patient's body includes a basket assembly. The basket assembly is configured to transition between various states including an expanded state and a collapsed state. The basket assembly may be substantially covered in a flexible sheet except for a side-facing opening when the basket assembly is in the expanded state. When the basket assembly is in the collapsed state, the side-facing opening may be substantially closed. The device may be inserted into the patient's body while the basket assembly is in the collapsed state. While in the patient's body, the basket assembly may be transitioned to the expanded state. Then, a physician may maneuver material to be removed from the patient's body into the basket assembly via the side-facing opening. Next, the basket assembly may be transitioned into the collapsed state or a partially collapsed state so that the basket assembly can be removed from the patient's body.

Material retrieval device and method of using

A friction disc includes a backing plate and a plurality of tiles having a trapezoid shape. The tiles are cut from a sheet of friction material such that greater than about 80% of the sheet is utilized in the tiles. The tiles are adhered to the backing plate with a phenolic-based resin. A groove extends between adjacent tiles from an inner diameter side to an outer diameter side.

Near-net shape fabrication of friction disk ring structures

Friction disk rings and a method for near net-shape fabrication of the friction disk rings are disclosed. The method includes cutting a friction material into tiled trapeziform strips. The strips are then folded into a disk ring structure that can be hot-pressed, stitched, or sewed, to preserve the disk ring structure. The disk rings include multiple layers of a friction material, each layer includes a plurality of triangular shaped panels. In one embodiment, the triangular shaped panels are symmetric with respect to the radial center of the disk ring.

Near net-shape fabrication of friction disk ring structures

Disclosed is a method for near net-shape fabrication of friction disk ring structures in which trapeziform paneled strips of friction paper or cloth are folded to make uniform 2-ply disks.
