A method and apparatus for providing a three-dimensional display to a viewer is disclosed. If a color difference between pixels of a right eye image area and corresponding pixels of a left eye image area is greater than or equal to a predefined difference threshold, a parallax barrier is controlled to block either the right or the left eye image area from the viewer. Otherwise, if the color difference is less than the predefined threshold, the parallax barrier is controlled to display both the right and left eye image areas to the viewer. Corresponding devices to implement the method are also disclosed. The method may be performed by an autostereoscopic display controller, or a pair of active shutter glasses, for example.

3D viewing with better performance in both lumen per watt and brightness

The invention is directed to systems, methods and computer program products for enhancing video encoding using depth information. An exemplary method comprises: determining, using a computing device, depth information associated with a first object in an image; determining, based on the depth information, that the first object is an object in focus; determining, based on the object in focus, a more important segment of an image; determining a first bit rate for encoding the more important segment of the image; and encoding the more important segment using the first bit rate.

Enhanced video encoding using depth information

A device and method for image manipulation is provided. The image manipulation may be performed as a function of a three dimensional user input and image or application specific data regarding the displayed image to be manipulated. The three dimensional input may be in the form of a two dimensional position on a touch screen and a measured force in the third dimension. The image or application specific data may be in the form of a maximum depth value indicating the maximum depth of the displayed image. The system may be configured to adjust the image based on a percentage of the measured user input force and a threshold force. The image may be adjusted based on the percentage and the maximum depth.

A portable communication device may determine whether a video camera is in a vicinity of the portable communication device. If so, video taken by the video camera may be used in a video conference conducted from the portable communication device.

Video conference using an external video stream

An electronic device includes a first touch panel disposed on a first side of the device. The first touch panel receives a first touch input. The electronic device further includes a display disposed on the first side of the device, and a touch interface disposed on a second side of the device, where the second side is different than the first side. The touch interface receives a second touch input. A control unit receives an indication of the first touch input from the first touch panel and receives an indication of the second touch input from the touch interface. The control unit further determines alterations to a three dimensional view of the display in the x, y and/or z directions based on the first touch input, and rotates the three dimensional view on the display angularly in accordance with movement of the second touch input.

In accordance with embodiments of the invention, an electronic device including one or more controllers and one or more slave units is provided with a bus such as an I C serial bus that connects the controllers and the slave units. The device further includes a secondary memory containing software drivers for a variety of different types of slave units, which can be present on the bus. The controller determines which types of slave units are actually present on the bus by sending, for each type of slave unit represented by a corresponding software driver in the secondary memory, a command via the bus using an address for the type. After determining which types of slave units are present on the bus, the controller loads corresponding software drivers from the secondary memory into a RAM, and using the loaded software drivers to initialize the slave units present on the bus.
