An approach is provided for providing abstracted user models in accordance with one or more access policies. A model platform determines an ontology for specifying a hierarchy of one or more abstraction levels for items data used in latent factorization models. The model platform further causes, at least in part, a generation of one or more user models for the one or more abstraction levels. The model platform also causes, at least in part, a selection of at least one of the one or more user models for generating one or more recommendations for one or more applications, one or more services, or a combination thereof based, at least in part, on one or more privacy policies, one or more security policies, or a combination thereof.

Method and apparatus for providing abstracted user models

A method of operating a mobile communication system-supporting data transmission between a mobile station (MS) and a network in a number of different packet data protocols (PDPs) including a point-to-multipoint-multicast (PTM-M) protocol PDP data is formatted and unformatted by a sub-network dependent convergence protocol (SNDCP) according to the PDP of data. The PDP is identified to the SNDCP by a protocol identifier transmitted between the network and the mobile station. In order to allow a MS to receive a PTM-M in an IDLE state, a unique protocol identifier is permanently assigned to PTM-M transmissions while other identifiers are dynamically assigned to other PDPs by the network.

Point-to-multipoint mobile radio transmission

In a digital mobile communication system, a packet radio system has been implemented by employing the radio interface of the mobile communication network. The packet radio system comprises packet radio support nodes (SGSN) connected to the mobile communication network, as well as gateway support nodes for providing an inter-connection to an external packet data network (). The support nodes (SGSN, GGSN) are connected to an intra-operator packet switched backbone network (). The serving support nodes and the gateway support nodes collect charging information on usage of the radio interface and the data network (), respectively. The system is further provided with a billing gateway support node (BGGSN) connected to the internal backbone network (BGGSN) to receive user-specific charging information collected by the other support nodes, and to forward the charging information to a charging system.

A method of paging a mobile station to establish a packet-switched connection in a mobile telephone network that supports a circuit-switched connection and a packet-switched connection. To establish a mobile-terminated circuit-switched connection, the mobile telephone network sends the mobile station a page request, as a result of which the mobile station switches to standby mode for a circuit-switched connection. To save the batteries and to reduce the need of processing, the mobile station listens only to the paging channels of the circuit-switched connection. To establish a mobile-terminated packet-switched connection, the mobile telephone network sends the mobile station a page request via a circuit-switched connection and subsequently sends the mobile station the additional information commanding the mobile station to switch to a packet-switched connection. After detecting the additional information, the mobile station switches to the packet-switched connection.

In TDMA systems it is possible to transmit data on more than one consecutive slot per frame. This introduces increased workloads on the power amplifier of the transmitter of the mobile station. To prevent the power amplifier from overheating, temperature sensing means are incorporated into the mobile station which output to a control system comprising a comparator and feedback means which together regulate the operation of the transmitter if the power amplifier approaches or exceeds it upper rated operating value. Thereby preventing the power amplifier from damage.
