An electronic device that generates an electronic-device-specific application is described. During operation, the electronic device may receive a request to create the electronic-device-specific application, where the electronic-device-specific application is associated with a services manager in a system hierarchy. In response to the request, the electronic device may provide instructions for a user interface, wherein the user interface is configured to present predefined configuration alternatives for configuration parameters for the electronic-device-specific application and/or to receive inputs for the configuration parameters for the electronic-device-specific application. Then, the electronic device may receive user-interface activity information, which specifies selections of the configuration parameters for the electronic-device-specific application, where the configuration parameters for the electronic-device-specific application specify functions in a physical layer, a data link layer and a network layer in the electronic-device-specific application. Next, the electronic device may generate, based at least in part on the configuration parameters, the electronic-device-specific application.

User interface for configuring device-specific IOT applications

In a second group of embodiments, an electronic device that provides a virtual Bluetooth gateway is described. During operation, the electronic device may receive a first packet associated with a second electronic device and that has an Internet Protocol (IP)-compatible format (such as a JavaScript Object Notation or JSON format). Then, the electronic device may de-encapsulate a second packet from the first packet, where the second packet is compatible with a Bluetooth communication protocol. Next, the electronic may provide the second packet. Note that the electronic device may not include a physical Bluetooth radio, such as dedicated hardware for a physical Bluetooth radio. Instead, the electronic device may include a virtual Bluetooth device that communicates with the second electronic device via the virtual Bluetooth gateway. This virtual Bluetooth device may have the capabilities of a physical Bluetooth radio (without the dedicated hardware).

An electronic device (such as an IoT controller) that distributes a link key is described. During operation, while an administrator is logged in, the electronic device may receive the link key using a secure widget, where the link key may facilitate secure communication via a link. Then, the electronic device may generate an access key, and may generate an encrypted version of the link key based at least in part on the access key and the link key, where the access key enables access to the link key based at least in part on the encrypted version of the link key. Next, the electronic device may store the link key, the access key and/or the encrypted version of the link key in a trusted envelope or partition in the memory with encryption. Moreover, when the administrator logs out, the electronic device may disable access to the trusted envelope.

Secure scalable link key distribution using bootsrapping

An electronic device that coordinates frequencies of coexisting communication protocols is described. During operation, the electronic device may receive messages with beacon information for a communication protocol, where the beacon information is sourced from one or more gateways and is associated with a second electronic device, and wherein the beacon information in a given message includes a frequency of a given beacon and a given received signal strength of the given beacon. Then, the electronic device may provide, from the interface circuit, an instruction addressed to the second electronic device, where the instruction restricts frequencies of beacons from the second electronic device based at least in part on a band of frequencies associated with a second communication protocol used by at least one of the one or more gateways. For example, the instruction may eliminate beacons having one of the beacon frequencies that overlaps the band of frequencies.

Coordinated and distributed frequency separation during coexisting communication

An electronic device (such as an access point or an eNodeB) that selectively provides prioritized communication is described. During operation, the electronic device may receive one or more packets or frames from a second electronic device using a communication protocol. Then, the electronic device may determine device-specific information based at least in part on a device profile associated with the communication protocol and/or a communication history of the second electronic device. Next, based on the determined device-specific information, the electronic device may assign additional data traffic associated with the second electronic device to a queue in a set of queues, where queues in the set of queues have different priorities, and where the queue provides a predefined latency of communication with the second electronic device corresponding to a priority of the queue.

The advisory device intercepts messages directed to an authorization element at an authorizing bank, modifies the intercepted messages in response to a set of financial policy rules, and forwards the intercepted messages to the authorization element. The authorization element responds to any modifications made by the financial institution agent, and issues a grant or a denial of of authorization in response. The financial policy rules include a set of policy limits for use of the payment card, responsive to card usage type, merchant type and location, amount per transaction (or for a selected duration), number of transactions, and combinations thereof Financial policy rules can include side effects, including notifications or two-step authorization (with the cardholder or a monitoring party), transaction records, and combinations thereof.

A set of techniques includes devices, methods, and user interfaces, capable of conducting proactive automated tests of a wireless system, and capable of operating while the wireless system is conducting its normal operations. A diagnostic device not controlled by the wireless system controls drivers and clients in that wireless system's access points, with the effect that the diagnostic device can inject message traffic into the wireless system while simulating clients of that system. The wireless system responds to that traffic and those simulated clients as if real clients were generating substantially real traffic for the system to handle. The diagnostic device can initiate messages from within that wireless system, can force those messages to traverse selected trajectories in that system, and can measure aspects of that system in response to those messages. Trajectories might include specific wireless devices, specific wireless parameters, and specific physical paths.
