The invention relates to a method of separating and recovering xylose from a xylose-containing plant-based solution. The method is performed in a chromatographic separation system, which comprises one or more weak base anion exchange resins and optionally one or more other resins selected from strong acid cation exchange resins and weak acid cation exchange resins, by passing the solution through the separation system, followed by recovering at least one fraction enriched in xylose. Optionally, a rhamnose fraction may also be recovered.

Separation and recovery of xylose using weakly basic anion exchange resins

A process for the separation of a xylose-containing, lignosulphonate-containing Ca-sulfite spent liquor is provided. The process comprises a first step of: (A) chromatographic separation of the Ca- or Mg-sulfite spent liquor using a single pass through a batch-type long resin bed chromatography column having a strong acid cation exchange resin as a separation medium. The ratio of the bed length:mean resin bead diameter of the column is 10,000-40,000. This step yields &#x2022;a first xylose-rich fraction having a xylose content 50-70 wt. % based on dry solids and &#x2022; a lignosulphonate-rich fraction. The process further comprises a step of: (B) crystallizing xylose from the first xylose rich fraction by using a crystallization method comprising (i) boiling crystallization; (ii) cooling crystallization or (iii) a combination of (i) and (ii) to obtain a first batch of crystalline xylose and a first xylose run-off. The process provides a simplification of existing methods, and at the same time allows advantages such as improved xylose yield and improved xylose purity.

Process for separation of Ca- or Mg-sulfite spent liquor to yield crystalline xylose

The present invention relates to a process for the production of xylose and dissolving pulp from xylan-containing biomass, such as hardwood. The invention is based on prehydrolysis of the xylan-containing biomass with SOin specified conditions, followed by chromatographic fractionation, nanofiltration or precipitation crystallization of the xylose-containing prehydrolyzate to obtain a xylose product having a xylose content of at least 55% on DS. The dissolving pulp obtained from the process can be used for example for the production of viscose.

Process of producing xylose and dissolving pulp

The invention relates to an improved nanofiltration process for separating and recovering components, such as sugars and sugar alcohols from multicomponent mixtures. The process of the invention is characterized by collecting the nanofiltration retentate/permeate in several fractions with different purity, optional recycling of at least one of the collected nanofiltration retentate/permeate fractions to the nanofiltration and recovering the desired component from the nanofiltration permeate/retentate fractions by different methods. In one embodiment of the invention, the process comprises a combination of nanofiltration and chromatography.

Separation process

The present invention relates to a chromatographic separation process for fractionating betaine-containing solutions by utilizing fractions comprising parts of the separation profile as a substituent of the eluent in a novel and inventive manner. The process provides improved separation capacity and separation efficiency without affecting the yield or purity of betaine or other products. The process can especially be applied to sequential SMB separation systems.

The present invention relates to a chromatographic separation process for fractionating solutions containing sugars, sugar alcohols, sugar acids and/or betaine by utilizing fractions comprising parts of the separation profile as a substituent of the eluent in a novel and inventive manner. A method for fractionating a solution into two or more fractions. More particularly the invention relates to a method for fractionating a solution by a chromatographic simulated moving bed (SMB) process in which the dissolved substances present in the feedstock are separated in the partial packed beds, and the formed separation profile is circulated more than once or less than once through the chromatographic separation loop during one cycle.

Chromatographic separation method

The invention relates to a system and a process for fractionating a solution into two or more fractions. The system of the invention comprises at least two compartments having a diameter of at least about one meter and including a uniform packing of a polymer-based ion exchange resin with a bead size in the range of about 50 to about 250 &#x3bc;m. The mixing volume of the fluid fronts in the system of the invention is not more than 5% of the volume of the compartment.

Separation system and process

The invention relates to the recovery of deoxy sugars, such as fucose from biomass-derived solutions, such as spent liquors obtained from pulping processes. Method for fractionating liquid mixtures

The invention relates to a method comprising a multistep process for recovering betaine, erythritol, inositol, sucrose, mannitol, glycerol and amino acids from corresponding starting materials. The invention comprises the use of a weakly acid cation exchange resin in chromatographic column in the multistep process. The starting materials are especially beet molasses, betaine molasses, syrups, thick juices, raw juices, corn steep cane based solutions and glycerol.

Method for recovering products from process solutions

The invention relates to a method for the fractionation of molasses using a chromatographic simulated moving bed system with two or more loops in which the liquid flow can be effected in a system comprising at least two chromatographic partial packing material beds. In the method of the invention, product(s) are recovered during a process comprising one or more of the following phases: a feeding phase of molasses, an eluting phase and a recycling phase. The liquid present in the partial packing material beds with their dry solids profile can be recycled in the recycling phase in one or more loops comprising one or more partial packing material beds.
