The present invention deals with a process for producing a multimodal ethylene polymer composition suitable for producing films by blow moulding and comprising the steps of (i) homopolymerising ethylene or copolymerising ethylene and an alpha-olefin comonomer in a first polymerisation step in the presence of a silica supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst to produce a first ethylene homo- or copolymer (PEI) having a density of from 940 to 980 kg/mand a melt flow rate MFRof from 2 to 1000 g/10 min, provided that if the first ethylene homo- or copolymer (PE1) is a copolymer, MFRthereof is in the range of 2 to 100 g/10 min; (ii) homopolymerising ethylene or copolymerising ethylene and an alpha-olefin comonomer in a second polymerisation step in the presence of the first ethylene homo- or copolymer to produce a first ethylene polymer mixture (PEM1) comprising the first ethylene homo- or copolymer and a second ethylene homo- or copolymer (PE2), said first ethylene polymer mixture having a density of from 940 to 980 kg/mand a melt flow rate MFRof from 10 to 1000 g/10 min; (iii) copolymerising ethylene and an alpha-olefin comonomer in a third polymerisation step in the presence of the first ethylene polymer mixture (PEM1) to produce a second ethylene polymer mixture (PEM2) comprising the first ethylene polymer mixture (PEM1) and a third ethylene copolymer (PE3), said second ethylene polymer mixture (PEM2) having a density of from 915 to 940 kg/mand a melt flow rate MFRof from 0.3 to 5 g/10 min, and wherein the second ethylene polymer mixture comprises from 10 to 35% by weight of the first ethylene homo- or copolymer, from 10 to 35% by weight of the second ethylene homo- or copolymer and from 45 to 70% by weight of the third ethylene copolymer.

The process comprises (i) homopolymerising ethylene or copolymerising ethylene and an &#x3b1;-olefin comonomer in a first polymerisation step in the presence of a polymerisation catalyst to produce a first ethylene homo- or copolymer having a density of from 940 to 980 kg/mand a melt flow rate MFRof from 1 to 2000 g/10 min; (ii) homopolymerising ethylene or copolymerising ethylene and an &#x3b1;-olefin comonomer in a second polymerisation step in the presence of a first ethylene homo- or copolymer to produce a first ethylene polymer mixture comprising the first ethylene homo- or copolymer and a second ethylene homo- or copolymer, said first ethylene polymer mixture having a density of from 940 to 980 kg/mand a melt flow rate MFRof from 10 to 2000 g/10 min; (iii) copolymerising ethylene and an &#x3b1;-olefin comonomer in a third polymerisation step in the presence of the first ethylene polymer mixture to produce a second ethylene polymer mixture comprising the first ethylene polymer mixture and a third ethylene copolymer, said second ethylene polymer mixture having a density of from 915 to 965 kg/m, preferably from 930 to 955 kg/mand a melt flow rate MFRof from 0.2 to 10 g/10 min; (iv) providing a pipe having an outer surface layer; (v) applying a coating composition onto the pipe outer surface layer to form a top coat layer, wherein the coating composition comprises the second ethylene polymer mixture.

Process for producing a coated pipe

A process for producing bimodal linear low-density polyethylene polymer compositions, useful for making films. The polymer compositions have a melt flow rate MFRof 0.4 to 1.0 g/10 min and a density of 918 to 925 kn/m. The process to produce the polymer compositions involves copolymerizing ethylene with an alpha-olefin comonomer in a loop reactor to produce a low molecular weight polymer having a melt flow rate MFRof 50 to 500 g/10 min and a density of 945 to 953 kg/m. The polymerization is continued in a gas phase reactor to produce a high molecular weight polymer, such that the final polymer composition has the desired properties. The final composition contains from 41 to 48% by weight of the low molecular weight polymer and from 59 to 52% by weight of the high molecular weight polymer. The resulting films have an excellent visual appearance and good mechanical properties. The compositions can easily be converted to films. The process can be operated a long time without a shutdown.

Process for the production of linear low-density polyethylene composition

Pipes having a design stress of at least 9.0 MPa are produced by using a new bimodal polyethylene composition of particular properties compounded with carbon black.

A process for the preparation of a heat sealable film comprising a core layer and a sealing layer, said process comprising attaching said core layer to said sealing layer, said sealing layer comprising an ethylene copolymer composition in which: (1) there are two distinct maxima in the TREF fractogram of the ethylene copolymer composition; (2) at lest 10%, of the ethylene copolymer composition elutes in TREF at a temperature of less than 50&#xb0; C.; (3) at least 25%, of the ethylene copolymer composition elutes in TREF at a temperature of higher than 75&#xb0; C.; (4) none of the ethylene copolymer composition elutes in TREF at a temperature of higher than 100&#xb0; C.; (5) the ethylene copolymer composition comprises two components, one of which is of relatively high comonomer content and high molecular weight, the other of which is of relatively low comonomer content and low molecular weight, both components being prepared by polymerisation of ethylene with a Calpha-olefin in the present of a single site catalyst; (6) the ethylene copolymer composition has a density of between 905 and 930 kg/m, and an MFRbetween 0.3 and 4.0 g/10 min.
