An apparatus for varying the speed of printed products is provided. The apparatus includes a nip roll rotatable about a nip roll axis and an eccentric assembly external of the nip roll coupled to the nip roll coincident with the nip roll axis. The eccentric assembly is adapted to eccentrically move the nip roll. A method of varying the speed of a printed product in a printing press is also provided.

Apparatus for varying the speed of printed products having an external eccentric assembly and method

A printing unit of an offset printing press includes a first plate cylinder, a first blanket cylinder for selectively contacting the first plate cylinder, a first inker for inking the first plate cylinder, a second plate cylinder, a second blanket cylinder for selectively contacting the second plate cylinder, and a second inker for inking the second plate cylinder. A first inker drive gear connects to the first inker for driving the first inker, and a motor uniquely associated with the printing unit is configured to drive the first inker drive gear. In addition, a gear train engaging the first inker drive gear is driven by the first inker drive gear so as to drive the first plate cylinder, the first blanket cylinder, the second blanket cylinder, the second plate cylinder and the second inker.

Inker driven shaftless unit

A plate cylinder has a cylinder body having a cylinder body outer surface for a first image to be printed and a first end, and a shell having an inner surface circumferentially disposed about the first end and having a gap for holding a printing plate, the shell being axially and circumferentially moveable with respect to the first end and having a shell outer surface for a second image to be printed, the inner surface having at least one projection directed inwardly, the gap extending into the projection.
